    noob question about legalities

I am interested in getting an AK and a FAL rifle but I am a little confused on the legalities of owning one in California. I was wondering if anyone could quickly explain what I would need to do in order to get CA legal versions of each rifle. I know it says we can't have rifles with pistol grips because they are "assault rifles", but I see plenty of people with them. So if someone wouldn't mind giving me some info I would really appreciate it. Thanks you.

Thanks for the flow chart but its still like a giant wall of text to me. I've been an avid shooter but never have been a rifle owner before. Are their any sites that specialize in selling CA legal rifles?

but you really need to understand the laws thouroghly to avoid creating an assault weapon even if you buy one all put together

Do NOT buy a gun before you understand the laws (or if you do, leave it disassembled). That "wall of text" is about as dumbed down and condensed as it gets. So, at a minimum, you need to absorb the flow chart and understand it well or you could end up inadvertently creating an AW.

Bullseye in San Rafael (I work with/for them) can help you with all the legal questions. As I said before, PM me for any specifics and I can guide you through the process.

I'm working on the curriculum for a class explaining AW laws so that these questions will hopefully soon be a thing of the past. Nearly finished.

Now if I'd just stop dragging my feet and finish turning the outline into a powerpoint.
