Bullet button vs Featureless

I have 6 AR15 style rifles. 2 guns are setup for coyote hunting with ACOG scopes. Two have Aimpoint Pro scopes. And, 2 are setup T1s and IR lasers for night shooting.

In the past, all were equipped with Radlocks. I wanted to keep the "feel" of how the rifle was meant to be. All of them have Magpul CTR stocks, Magpul grips, and Magpul forends.

I just recently put a Magpul fixed carbine stock, solar tactical grip wrap, left handed safety, and Surefire Procomp on one of them. I took off the Radlock and now I can drop magazines. I am completely surprised. IT IS NOT THAT BAD. I love the fixed carbine stock. It is easy to use the left handed safety. The grip wrap is easy to get used to. I put skateboarders tape on it and it is easy to grip. The biggest bummer is the Procomp. It makes the flash more noticeable.

I am thinking about converting the rest. Has anyone else gone featureless and regretted it? It will cost about $500 for the various parts. I like the idea of having guns I could actually use for home defense or anything else that comes up. Dropping mags would be nice. The limitations of the stupid Kali grip wrap were not as bad as I thought. Still retarded. But, not horrific.

Featureless or Raddlock - what do you think?

Hello I just joined cal guns today I'm a long time forum lurker! Lol any ways I will be moving to California in one year and for the past year I have been kinda trying to understand all the laws you all have. I just recently bought a century C 39V 2 and I love it and I was wanting to see who else had a featureless rifle and what did they think of it? Just holding it that way doesn't seem bad but I get freaking paranoid thinking what will happen if I screw this up. The fix seems to simple for such a complicated law! If you know what I mean.

I'm currently in the process of converting my AK into a featureless. Will let you know if I regret it or not. Currently waiting on a new grip, which I will try to make my own grip wrap on and also a Magpul FSC stock.

DO it, going featureless is great, especially on a AK. i bought that solar tactical gripwrap for my Century C39 and its awesome. holding the rifle with a grip wrap is, to me anyway, just like holding any other non pistol grip rifle. really no getting used to imo. I will do all my rifles featureless from now on. only thing that sucks for you is that all those 30 rounders you have you will not be able to bring in.

My issue with featureless is that it is much more difficult to maintain control of the rifle with just your firing hand (like when opening a doorknob with your support hand) unless you have a thordsen, hammerhead or u15 style stock.

For home defense, I think you are better off with a gun that is naturally "featureless" such as an su16, mini14, Ares scr, etc rather than fumbling with a rifle with "compromised" ergonomics.

For recreational or hunting purposes, a featureless set up is a matter of preference.

Regardless, whatever option you go for home defense, train with it in that setup.

Yeah I don't know what I will do with my 30 rounders. I was thinking of storing them in a storage locker out of state. Won't really use them and for target practice I don't like using 30's because I shoot too much! I just want them somewhat close by if I wwere to ever need them at least they won't be half way across the country!

The AR feels like your taking so much away when you go featureless. But the AK was made when fetureless was standard...don't know if that makes since. You feel like you still have more of the original rifle.

Sorry for hijacking the thread sorta. Fetureless seems the way to go and I will do it with as many as I can.

LOL. Mr. Stoner did not design the rifle to feel the way it feels with magpul furniture. If you want the feel of how the rifle was meant to be, you'll need to build a retro AR.


That said, featureless is much more practical but, I have both featureless and mag locked ARs just to spice things up.

Most folks who say this have never tried the Thordsen stock. Last time I was at the range with my Thordesn equipped AR, I ended up letting 6 folks try it out.

ALL of them were very excited about it and pretty much all of them said after just a few rounds they totally forgot about it not being a pistol grip.

When I ordered the FRS-15 I REALLY did not want to like it just based on pictures I had seen.
Once in hand and installed, I was ready to replace all my BB equipped AR's with the FRS stock. And pretty much EVERYONE who sees my rifle in person says it looks "more evil" then a standard configured AR.
