i believe all the evil features arise from the need to create a definition of assault weapon. you can't just try to ban assault weapons without defining them. i could call you an assault weapon... then are you banned? no, you have to define what it is.
they tried to ban an entire class of firearms. they tried to do this by banning all currently produced assault weapons by name, with a big list, but they knew that there would come a time where names would change and manufacturers would sprout up. to address the future arms they listed common features on assault weapons.
they tried to do a entire ban without banning all semi automatics because no one would ever fly for the banning of all semi automatics.
what's interesting is would they have been more successful if they only name CERTAIN assault weapons you could have and a gun had to be ONLIST for you to acquire it? just like the handgun roster?
