Outstanding info all. Going this route using the following ~

      Defiance Machine Deviant Hunter Lefty
Criterion Heavy Varmint 26" SS 6.5 Cr. Have not decided on how short I want to chop this. Fairly heavy but I want to wait and see.
Mcmillian stock M40A-1HTG in McWoody 33% Black 33% Dark Brown 33% Med Brown
Timney Calvin Elite Trigger ~ Lefty with safety
Bottom Metal undecided. Leaning towards AICS compatible.
      Nightforce SHV 5x20x56 MOAR

I like the flexibility of the RemAge system. If in the future a decision is made to go with a true custom build, most of the parts and pieces are there.

If I set up a 6.5CM with remage could I switch to 223 with a bolt swap too?

If your goal is to quick-change the barrels to share one scope, action and stock, swapping back and forth is far easier with a shouldered barrel instead of a barrel nut.
With the nut, you have to adjust the headspace every time you swap the barrel.
With a shoulder, the barrel goes back to the same headspace after every swap.

Barrel, sight and trigger work on most pistols and shotguns.
            Most work performed while-you-wait.

Don't shouldered barrels need to be installed by a smith? I must be missing something.

                No.
They need to be machined by a smith.
They are easier to install than a barrel nut system barrel.

All you do is tighten them into the receiver until they stop.
All you need is a barrel vise and an action wrench.
                No headspace gauges required.
