    Tikka T3/scope ejecting brass problem

    Hello guys.
I just got my Tikka T3 Hunter, mounted scope on her and facing problem with ejecting brass. It is nor rifle, it is combo between rifle and scope. When I open bolt spent shell is coming out, hitting windage adjustment knob and going back to ejection port. It does eject OK if I open bolt very slow, but still hitting knob and falling aside. Here is info: Tikka T3 Hunter, scope SWFA SS 12X42, rings Talley LWA Low.
Does anybody has fix for this? One of the fix to put High rings and I already order them. But any other ideas?
BTW, I want to say very good things about Talley rings. Ones I have installed them on rifle and very first shot on 50 yards was horizontally perfect and about 1.5 inch lower. Never in my experience saw this kind of set up right after installation POI be that close to bulls eye.

    Thanks a lot in advance

The length-of-pull is too long on your stock or the scope was just not mounted correctly for you if the length-of-pull is indeed correct.
This is causing you to move the scope to the rear far enough for the brass to hit the FRONT of the scope knob instead of the BOTTOM of the knob.
If you correct the length of pull, the scope should get moved forward and the cases will just bounce off the bottom of the knob on their way out of the gun.

If that's not it, you otherwise have the scope mounted too far to the rear.

I would also put taller mounts, bases on it as well as what's suggested above by ar15barrels, above

Originally scope was mounted with knob on the middle of ejection port-and it was even worse. Brass didn't come out at all. Moved rear and now with very slow bolt opening brass ejecting.
Last night I did test and simulated higher rings-put some shims under the ring bases (.150")-brass was flying off perfectly. So, I guess, my solution will be to use higher rings.

Thanks a lot guys for input.

Hanging a big adjustment knob in front of the ejection port sometimes does that.

This has come up on another message board. It isn't always the length of pull. Some have complained to Tikka and all Tikka says is mount taller scope rings. Some have just rotated their scopes 180. This only works as long as you have a basic cross hair reticle scope.

Only with claw extractors that throw the brass UP into the knob.
I see this problem on all sorts of remington 700's where people put in a Sako or mini16 extractors.
The factory remington extractor launches the case a a much lower angle so the cases clear the knobs.

It should be noted that a Tikka T3 has a Sako extractor and a high ejection angle.

Ad I sad, I simulated higher rings and it wworks. New High rings coming tomorrow. I will install, test it and will report it after.
Reticle on my scope isn't basic MilDot, so no option to turn it 90 degrees. Any way, I wouldn't do it!

Length-of-pull is often the problem except with sako and mini16 extractors.
Then, it's a gun design problem where the case is being thrown out at too high of an angle.

Curious why you have a Tikka hunter with a fixed 12x scope on it?

That's only one rifle was available in caliber and budget, localy. And scope-I really see it as a winner at $300 price range. I am not planing to hunt right now, just accasionsl long range target shooting, but wanted have option for hunting open. On top of, I like rifle look and feel, and most importanly-my daughter love it!!! she is already circling around rifle and she might start redestribution of wells proccess

I think he was just poking fun at your magnification choice. It's a fine setup and if it works for you, that's all that matters. I really want a T3 Hunter, having a hard time finding any in stock. Can't say I've been looking too hard though. I will be running the same set up but with a SWFA 5-20 HD.

I have a SS scope on a Tikka T3 Hunter in .308 with a one piece DNZ medium height mount; no problems ejecting shells.

I simply was wondering why the combination of Tikka Hunter + 12x scope. The fixed 6x would have been my choice, but to each his own.

Tikka makes some great rifles, especially for hunting. And I dont need no learnin on the SWFA scopes. I have enough of them that I dont remember the exact count. Haha, its funny cause its true.
