I really like the XLR chassis. I have 2 of them.
And they make one for the post 1964 winchester action.

Upgrade your rifle with an American-made chassis system from XLR Industries. Perfect for competitive shooters, hunters & hobbyists alike. Order online today.

That is what I would use in your position.

      Applied Weapons Technologies

      Hey Guys,
I too have a Win Mod 70 an have been looking for a "tacticool" chassis system. I ran across a company called Applied Weapons Technologies (AWT)http://www.appliedweaponstech.com . I asked if they still made a chassis for the Wind Mod 70 and Shane from AWT replied saying they had 1 chassis in FDE in stock and would not have any more for another 8 weeks. Hope this helps anyone looking for a Win Mod 70 chassis since I know how hard they are to find.

I am aware that this Thread is rather old but I still want to make a reply.

I checked with several of the chassis makers who support the largest number of different actions.
NONE of them make a chassis for a long action Winchester Model 70.
Your best bet is to sell the rifle and buy a different rifle that has chassis systems available for it.
Some good options would be a Remington 700, Savage 110 or Tikka T3.
You will find at least a couple options for the long action savage and tikka T3 or over a dozen options for the long action 700.

Barrel, sight and trigger work on most pistols and shotguns.

That would certainly be the easiest course of action without a doubt.
Unfortunately it would mean buying a registered gun here. I just can’t bring myself to do that.

Failing that, Randall, are the HS Precision and McMillan stocks as capable as a chassis system in your experience given a proper installation? Chassis seem to be the flavor de jure and I’ll admit it’s caught my eye for that reason, but if it’s not an option I guess I’ll have to ‘settle’ For a high quality polymer stock.

Given a proper installation with bedding, they are better than most chassis systems because people generally don't bed chassis systems.

Is bedding typically required with a full aluminum bedding block?

No way to know without testing.
                      Bedding is never detrimental.
If a stock did not need bedding to be done and you bedded it anyways, no harm will come.
If a stock needed to be bedded and you bedded it, only good comes from it.
