    Savage Axis II XP issue

Just seeing if anyone has heard of this issue I had yesterday with my Savage Axis II XP in .308.

I don't think it is an issue with the rifle itself as it functioned flawlessly, but I think its an issue with the Weaver scope that came with the rifle.

I tried to sight in the new rifle yesterday and every round fired was 3ft high and 2 ft right of the target. we used 40 rds total and determined there was an issue we couldn't fix at the range. We made adjustments on the scope but no change at point of impact. This happened with both myself and my friend trying so it wasn't the shooter that was off. Elevation was cranked all the way down and the point of impact never changed. there was a nice 5-6 inch hole in the dirt to the side of the target where every round was impacting. Target was set up at 100 yards using my friends range finder.

We came to the conclusion that it must be a bad scope. Wondering if anyone else had this issue with Weaver scopes or any other brand of scopes?

Edit: forgot to mention i sent a message to savage via FB asking for an email address so I can ask them their thoughts. Their website doesn't have an email address listed.

    Sounds like a broken scope.

That's what both my friend and I think as well. I could have filled out a service request on their website but i don't think its their problem. Although since the scope did come on their rifle, i wanted to contact them to see if they would replace the scope or if i had to go through weaver.

Make sure the scope rail is not loose.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

          Something is lose!

The Kaspa though made in China is fairly tough scope. Bet the rings or mount
is loose. Oh check the screws holding the reciever to the stock as well.

Other than that how do you like the Accutriger?

We double checked the rings and made sure they were tight, but not the stock.
I really like the feel of the accutriger. Overall the rifle performed very nice, its just the fact that we couldn't dial in the scope.
I will double check a little later on the stock.

Check to make sure the scope is correctly positioned, turrets are on the top and right hand side and not top and left. Hey I've seen it done!

Do you have a laser boresighter?

Hmmk reading it again it could be a misaligned mounting. You said every round went to the same place.

Yes every round went to the same 5-6" spot (you could see the hole in the dirt)
Orientation of the scope was adjustment knobs top and right.
Scope rings and rail mounts tight and double checked at the range.

The elevation was maxed out on both up and down without a change in point of impact so I feel strongly that it is the scope that is bad.

Don't take this wrong, but you are sure you know how to adjust the scope right?

Aim at the bullseye, take 3 shots, lock down the gun rigidly then move the crosshairs while looking through the scope away from the bullsye to the impact point of where the bullets were landing. One axis at a time. You should obviously see the crosshairs moving as you twist the knobs.

Don't use the Up/Down Left/Right arrows on the scope to adjust the crosshairs. That can be confusing.

I wont take it the wrong way, and I appreciate your input.
the method you described is a great way to dial in a scope while shooting from a bench. We were on BLM without benches. I have dialed in scopes before on my other rifles and never had this issue. As others have stated and reinforced my thought that it is a bum scope since no matter the adjustment made, the point of impact never changed.

I already submitted a ticket with Savage to see if they will address the issue or direct me how to contact weaver. I know that if its a scope issue I should contact Weaver, but I contacted Savage since the scope came with the rifle and in hopes that it would speed up the process. Unfortunately its been 3 days without a reply but I have patience and will wait a while before I try to contact them again.

                              Chuck the scope.
Check the base screws are tight.
                              Put a Leupold on it.
Sight it in and be done with it.

                              End of problem for life.
