looking for a solid Bolt action .308

I'm looking for a good Bolt action rifle, in .308. I have been looking at the Thompson Center. Reading some good and some bad reviews about them tho. Does anyone have an opinion on what would make a nice gun. It's gonna be my wife's gun since I got the last couple. Lol. Need to make her happy.

Love my tikka. Pretty open ended question though. Price, purpose, ooohh and ahh factor, desire to modify are all things to consider.

She might do better with a .243, less recoil, will reach out past 600 also.

DTA (desert tech) SRS is perfect for you. You can get the 308 for her, and if it is too hard you can go get a .260 or 6.5 credmore or 6.5x47 lapua barrel. Harder, flatter sitting with the kick off a 223. Like having 2 guns in one!

I have a Remington 700 5R 308 cal. 24 inch, Im happy with it. You can get ur wife the 20 inch threaded and put a muzzle break to tame the recoils.

Can't go wrong with a Remington 700 series. Find yourself a 5R or 700P and customize it to your liking.

Tikka T-3 Lite in 308 or 7-08. It is light/very accurate/easy to handle. Put a Limbsaver direct replacement recoil pad on it for reduced recoil. Install a Leupold 3X9X40 scope in the supplied rings. This would be for a hunting or carry rifle.
If it is only for the range I would suggest a Weathery Vanguard in 308 or 223 or a Savage rifle and even a Rem700.

You can go wrong with Rem 700 rifles as they are often too heavy/long and such.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Not a Ruger, Not a Thompson. Not a Remington 770 either.

After that, pretty much anything is ok. Don't buy a rifle that comes with a scope. The glass is never going to be worth a damn and is only making up some price point for an otherwise cheap/sub-par rifle.

                  I like Savage 10's.

I've got a savage 10FP, in 308, with Accutrigger. I really like it. It shoots very well.

One criticism I would offer, is that the factory stock seems sort of flimsy. However, I figure that, when the time comes to upgrade, there are many options available.

I realize that some regard the Remington 700 action as supreme, and don't disagree. My thinking on that subject is that the performance upgrade with the Accutrigger vs the factory Remington trigger outweighs the benefit of the Remington action over the Savage action.

I've also got a Ruger MK77 LE, chambered in 223 heavy barrel. This rifle is an absolute tackdriver. I bought it many years ago from Evan, of Evans Gunworks. It was one of his personal rifles, and came with a Harris bipod and Leopold gold ring glass. I don't shoot it much, as I don't get out to longer distance outdoor ranges often. Same with the Savage.

I debated seriously not purchasing the Ruger, due to my strong ideological differences with the late Bill Ruger. Indeed, it's the only Ruger I do, or will ever own.

I only bought it, because it came from Evans personal stash, and was part of a very limited run of rifles.

I guess I should have added more.
Price needs to be around 700-800
And don't worry about the kick. My wife isn't a princess wife, she'll be able to handle the kick.
only want to put maybe standard stuff on it like a bipod and a scope.
