Get a good stock. Then, later, do the magazine. Then as my skills improve do the trigger? Then save for a 1st focal plane scope...

What is a good stock? I just looked at the AICS stocks and they are a bit aggressive for me. I have an AR15 (5.56) that is very aggressive looking.

Maybe all black or wood or???

If you want wood, Boyds makes a great product for the price. They also make a stock called the tacticool which is still wood, but painted black.

If you go that route have it pilar bedded

What is a good stock?

Anything rigid enough that the barrel will not come in contact with the stock while you are shooting it.
Examples would be a Boyd's stock (all wood), an HS or B&C composite stock.
These would be the bare minimum.
Of course you can go much higher end to McMillan or Manners stocks or to any of the aluminum chassis.

Just to make things complicated OP, another thing to keep in mind is that some of these are best done together-such as the stock and detachable bottom metal. Trigger is something else that I did at the same time since the action needs to come out regardless.

No difference in the wood, just the cut IIRC.

OP with a 300 limit budget, you barely have enough for a decent stock.

you either need to save up more or do it stages as someone said previously.

for what you want to do from what i've researched for myself. you are going to need a budget of about 600-800. Randall's list is pretty much your cheapest way with decently good parts, you can save about 100 on the stock if you get a used one as Randall suggested. that is what i did as well, used HS precision take off stock from a remington 700 for just around 200.

You can get a McRee chassis system with a folding unit that fits AR style stocks for $467+$7 shipping and a Accurate 10 rnd mag goes for $64 +- if I remember correctly at MDT Tac website. For for a bit over $500 you will have a chassis system that does not need bedding of any sort and it's a awesome chassis to shoot with. You can get the hunter series even cheaper!! They go for $435+$7 shipping. This is pricing with the chassis cerakote painted or anodized can't remember which one. And like I said its install and go shooting.

That is a good question, I don't think the official specs have been made public yet, I think the whole system itself was just announced at Shot Show. Supposedly going to be shipping as soon as April so I'd imagine in the next month all that information would come out.

Looks like some flavor of Magpul polymer with an aluminum bedding block so probably on the lighter end, more so than B&C or HS. Then you can get the Magpul bottom "metal" which will accept their new polymer AI compatible mags. Whole package seems light and budget friendly.
