From PT&G: "All action kits have a varying ship time from 1 to 12 weeks...."
So "up to 3mos" would be more accurate. If Kiff has them in stock there's no wait....

GunDiapery; I forgot to link this one, a short-action that's trued/blueprinted with PT&G's much-nicer one-piece bolt and fluted firing-pin assembly and teardrop bolt knob.
Just $595, you can't buy a take-off and have a smith true it for that.

$4,000 is my max though. I'd love to go higher but my wife would divorce me and get mucho dinero in child support with 4 kids.

I'm guessing the Surgeon action does not come with a barrel?
.308 is a no brainer. Get the R700 Milspec, a trigger, brake, and maybe a metal bottom for detachable mags. That'll shoot fine while you are learning, under $1,500ish out the door. Leaves room for a decent scope.

I have had longer waits. Even longer...Bartlein, but one of my barrels got in the mail two days ago...can't remember when I ordered it. Two more were ordered at the same time, about 2-4 more weeks, so I ordered 3 more because I know it'll take that long--they said probably 8 months.

I have a T5A and love it. My next stock will be a T6A.

I want to build my own bolt gun.
Kreiger barrel, timney trigger, cadex urban strike, trued by grunning precision.
Order up the big PTG package with the one piece bolt, lug and scope base.
Get your chassis, trigger and barrel blank and schedule a build day.
You will be shooting it the next day.

Ask JMP how the one I built for him a couple weeks ago shot...

It wasn't that it shot accurately, what was more impressive was that Randall measured my touch lengths exactly, which is more precise than a cheap gauge. Then he gave me load for the 105gr Scenar COAL, powder and charge, and said that should do about 0.25 MOA. He delivered. I still need to tinker with a different load for a different bullet, but it is my believe that Randall knows what he is talking about.

But, hey, everyone gets lucky sometimes. I have 7 barrels on order right now--that will be the test.
