    Rem 700 action

Where can I buy a Remington 700 action?

I want to build my own bolt gun.
Kreiger barrel, timney trigger, cadex urban strike, trued by grunning precision.

May I ask why you're not going for a custom action like Stiller/Surgeon/Defiance when the chassis you're putting it on is north of $2300?

Edit: Or north of $1k, i dunno they have a lot of Strikes

more money for the scope I hope, but then again, this person just ripped off a perfect 200 score in f t/r @ 1000 yards with a Savage action and AccuTrigger:

This past weekend, reigning F-TR National Champion James Crofts shot a match using the latest generation of the SEB Joy-stick Bipod, aka Joy-Pod. Apparently, James didn't have any problems adjusting to the coaxial Joy-Pod.

Goes to show you a lot of the skill is between the ears

I still like custom actions and will probably never go back to a stock rifle unless its like a 700 5R or I get an incredible deal on the rifle.

        I don't want to go over $4,000.

I was thinking between the action, trigger and stock $2,000-$2500.

That leaves $1500-$2000 for scope, Bi-pod and detachable magazines.

With my $4000 budget I'm more than willing to hear suggestions. Heck, if I could get a nice custom bolt gun for $3,000 with glass that would be good too.

So, this is what I want it for. I don't hunt but have lots of time to shoot. I wouldn't go past 8-900 yards. I will never have to hump it long distances but since I'm handi-able I don't want a ton of bricks either.

I want to be able to challenge myself at longer distances than 300 yds. If it came down to it I'd compete if I became a good shot.

I would get the Bushnell hdmr ($1100ish scope), so that leaves 2900 for the rifle. Call it 700 for the barrel and chambering, so that 2200. They have lots of stocks out there from mcmillan and manners for cheap. Hell, XLR and the comany that makes the whiskey3 chassis have a cheaper model, so call the stock 600. Now, u have 1800 left. Magazine and leveler is 100 total, so that's 1700 left. Trigger is say 225, so that 1475. Rings are 200 or less, so that's 1275. Bipod is 100...now you're at 1175. A stiller action is around $1k, so you're right there at 4k

they are out of stock right now but they were in stock just a few weeks ago. this price is cheaper than the brownells action only. you can take off the barrel and sell for a small amount and use it towards some other part you need to get. if you are near a Turners that is.

I don't think you have specified a cartridge, which would play a factor too in price and what you can get.

If you are willing to spend $4k and you are starting out, don't limit yourself on price. Instead, shop for value, then figure out what you want. Good stuff will hold its value better than cheap Chinese crap, so you can more easily trade if you want something different.

I bought a brand new TRUED R700 action from a company that I want to say is in Oregon. I can't recall the name of the company but Ill try and find it for you. They are very reasonably priced

Edit: Found it: http://www.nwactionworks.com/#!actions/c1prz They aren't as reasonably priced as they were when I bought mine a couple years ago

grab a complete rifle from Dick's or Turners... you will be amazed how accurate these rifles are with a new stock and trigger, decent glass....

with the money you save you can buy some ammo and learn how to reload for greater accuracy...

once the barrel is shot out, then dump some money in it for a new barrel and have the action trued...

$4,000 is my max though. I'd love to go higher but my wife would divorce me and get mucho dinero in child support with 4 kids.

I'm guessing the Surgeon action does not come with a barrel?

Nothing wrong with this for the base of your build. There's good reason that most of the custom actions are based on the Rem700 and it's not for stock compatibility....

                            PT&G is a little-known source for Remington actions. Here's a base short action for $458. http://shop.pacifictoolandgauge.com/...oducts_id=2148

And here's a package for a trued/blueprinted action/bolt with a better firing pin assembly, trigger, 20moa rail, stock pillars, bottom metal, recoil lug and magazine for just under $1K. http://shop.pacifictoolandgauge.com/...oducts_id=2161

If you decide to go custom and don't go with a BAT or Stolle, the Barnard Actions are very nice for similar money and includes a very good good trigger.

PTG has blueprinted 700 actions with their excellent bolts for less than Brownells.

Duh... that's what Killshot said. It's really an excellent option.
