A few of my friends had never heard of Gary Cooper. I had not seen any of his movies but ordered some DVDs on EBay. So far I've only seen Springfiled but others are on the way including High Noon. My dad wants to watch some with me. He was a Cooper fan.

If it's available you might want to add this movie to your collection, do a Yahoo search for Gary Cooper, then check Wikipedia for the list of his films. It's entertaining.

I have that one coming already. My dad and another friend of mine said it was really good. I think Cooper won his first Acadamy Award for that.

I think at this point I would take all of this new found provenance and would have the rifle appraised. Certainly you should have an idea of what its worth for insurance purposes. It maybe more valuable than you realize. That one beautiful rifle. I'm sure GC payed some big bucks for it when he bought it.

I'm thinking of asking one of the big auction houses if they would appraise the rifle. I looked up an old catalogue and the Griffin & Howe rifles were selling for $185 back when he bought it new. I'm sure that was a lot of money back then. He probably paid an extra $3 for the exhibition wood Lol!

Thanks! I still spend time searching the internet once in a while for more photos or information about Gary Cooper and this rifle. But I've haven't found anything new lately. There are hundreds and hundreds, probably thousands of photos, magazine articles and pages in books. It would take forever to go through everything. I would like to send the story to Maria Cooper Janis, Gary's daughter but I don't know how to find an address for her. I think she would find the story interesting. I will certainly post anything new I come across.
