It was never meant for clip loading, it was for scope base lugs only.
I always thought it was a terrible idea and tried to show them how it would be much better to incorporate the scope base and recoil lug as a single piece.
But, I was just another splash of green on the floor and my opinion didn't matter.

As far as I know there is no existing complete blueprint for the clip slot.
They were always a "wing it" kind of thing.
I know of 2 specific different cuts. The one that was supplied from Remington which is the exact same as the 40X has, and the ones we cut which were mated to a specific mount.

You know how all the parts were stamped with the last 4 of the serial number ?
There ya go, another reason why, hand fitted parts that wouldn't interchange no matter how badly you wanted it to....or tried forcing it with a prybar and hammer

    So yea
Some (probably a bit less than 1/2) were supplied from Remmy with the cuts, the others we did (the nicer ones with the little moon eye looking cuts).

Did the m 40 come from Remington with a clip slot? Did the m 40 A1 use the clip slot as a recoil lug for the scope mount? Did the m 40 A3 get rid of the clip slot and used a pure recoil lug slot as done in house?

It is. I would have thought you'd have one.
No big. I will try and post it here.

You mean this old thing ?

Look close, it is not complete.

No. That's old info from the custom shop for the 40-x. I have that drawing as well and cut that profile slot for guys that are making M40 replicas. It is as complete as it needs to be for the type slot it is referencing. I am talking about the A3 slot mods shown on the print I referenced above. Just wondering how/if you guys cut them.

We did cut them, but some came from Remmy already cut and we left those ones alone and used as is.
I thought I already posted about this....look back in the thread please.

I did not take any blueprints from the shop when I left....I have my own mod sheets and will not post those as they are my own personal data and I consider that to be infringing on my intellectual property. I hope you can understand that. I'm sure you have some secrets you don't wish to share....hell everyone does, right ?

But, that print above is not custom shop 40x.
It is remmys in house M40 sheet. The slot is the same as the 40X but there is a minor difference in some numbers.

As I stated before, of what use is a stripper guide when you have a scope mounted on a precision rifle and have to remove the scope to use it ?
And, it's not the best way to anchor a scope base, it's a compromise at best.
I do not use anything of the sort when I build a precision rifle these days, there are myriad better ways to go about it.

It would be a replica, not an original.
It wasn't machined in the PWS shop.
It doesn't have the correct serial numbers.
It was never an issued M40.

It would never be anything but a replica, even if Jesus himself blessed it and sprinkled fairy dust on it.
                        Same with GAP rifles.
Same with CHPWS rifles (man what a loser company name....stone cold rip off name).
Just so I understand, you're saying that if an M40 like rifle is built outside of PWS by someone other than a currently serving 2112, it's not an M40.

However, if a currently serving 2112 takes ashort action .308 M40 and changes everything (including the receiver) but the 10 or so parts Randall listed, it's still the same gun, just updated to a .300 win mag?

Was/ is it issued to the US Marines ?
                          If not it's a replica.
If it is/has been, it is genuine.

How is that hard to understand and why would someone ever think otherwise ?

                          I could splash a bunch of paint on a canvas....is it a Monet ?

So, a former 2112 that builds an M40 like rifle isn't building an M40 because it won't be issued to a Marine. Gotcha.

Its no use napalm. I don't think we're getting through to him. I understand exactly what your saying. I think everyone does, except him. The M40's they build in quantico actually ARENT M40's until they arrive in a Marine's hands. Oh ya, and unless its a long action. So i guess what he's trying to say is all the M40's in service now that are short action 308's, really aren't M40's.

Nah, I get it. I live in the C&R forum too, and that's very much the view there. If it wasn't issued it's not authentic. I get it.

I would still think, if it were up to me to judge such things, that if a rifle requires having it's receiver, bolt, barrel, mag and stock swapped in order to update it, you're simply building a new rifle rather than updating an old one. Thorax seems to disagree. Doesn't matter to me, I have zero background in building cool bolt guns.
