Appreciate the offer and kindness LynnJr. I'm down in southern ca but I do go up to northern ca occasionally... I may have to take you up on that offer some day.
For hunting rifles, forgot to mention above, I do have a 22 I could use as a hunting rifle already although I do want a 17hmr in the future.
Same boat with the 222, which I know is very similar to 223 in an ar. I also know enough people hunt with ars now (with the appropriate sleds/mag limits) and while not the most ideal platform, it is certainly doable. I did ponder a 243 or 222 briefly before this though, although it felt redundant with 223 and 6.5x55. Not to mention, if I had to pick just one of the above, it'd probably be the 6.5 without a second thought, and I'd rather put the maybe or cheap 243 money into the 6.5 if/when I get there. Actually, now that I think about it, the 270 or 7mm would be slightly or totally redundant too with the wide amount of 6.5x55 and 30-06 (or even 308) loads available out there...
