Just looking at Winchester rifles, anyone know why the 7WSM was dropped? I see Browning the sister Co. is utilizing it.

I have gotten 6 firings from used brass from a friend before the primer pockets stretched to where I need some Tula primers now in them and almost 16 firings from my current Remington brass pieces.

Calculator or not my experience has shown excellent barrel life for a screaming 3340 fps from a 130 VLD bullet. Low pressures as well. I can cut back to another excellent node with 3140 fps too, but reaching out that much farther faster sounds cool against some steel at a mile.
I think I'll go 7 SAUM first before going 6.5 SAUM.

That's impressive, but I don't shoot slowfire so I'm concerned with barrel heat over 15 rounds strings of fire.

Wonder why the 6.5 Remington Magnum never caught on? Looks like it would be good to me.

I didn't think it be that bad. It be like having a something equivalent to the 270 Win but in a short action.

Same reason .264 Magnum Died - a 7mm just works better in a magnum
Same kick but the bigger diameter and extra grains are felt on the other end!

Oh and the longer barrel life.

6.5 Remington Magnum isn't any where near the 264 Win. Only thing that makes it a magnum is they used a shortened 7mm mag case. Its about 100fps slower that the 6.5-06 with 140 gr bullets.

In 6.5, get a gun that shoots very accurately.
                      1. 6.5 CD
                      2. 260 Rem
                      3. 6.5 Lapua

In that order. Get a 1:8" Bartlein 5r barrel that is cut by a competent gunsmith. If you are going to fuss over more power because a 140gr 6.5mm at 2,800fps isn't enough, then step up and get a proper tool for the job, a .338 Lapua is a great cartridge as a step up from a short action caliber. It's a really nice, balanced cartridge that has enough power for 99% of rifle shooting.

Hold up there peoples. This rifle will be mostly used shooting Deer, Black Bear and other critters across canyons or down in deep Ravines or those sneaky fkrs that hug the tree lines and also out in the open Desert regions wear cover is at a minimum sometimes, Of course it will also serve as a rock buster after the Animal is down or there are no Animals to take that day and I get bored stiff. It will also see formal target shooting out to approximately 600 yrds I have no desire to shoot targets at that mystical 1000 yrds Hell I can't even see that far sometimes. My magic velocity # is 2900-3100fps with 140's I am choosing the 6.5 for the great all around Ballistics including terminal it offers for a small to mid size bullet. The rifle will be built with good components but it will not be an off the table shooter it will weigh in at 8.5-9lbs minus scope and mounts. Yeah I know I just burst all the bubbles. Sorry!

I think it would be cool to have a Remington 660 in 6.5 Remington Mag, but it would also be cool to have one in 350 RM, it's equal to the 35 Whelen but in a short action.

I would go Sako over the Tikka

                              It's too light
