    Sinister Lefty

I have been saving up for a savage flcp-k and got distracted along the way buying other ****. Now that I have the money I find out that savage has discontinued one of the only left handed bolt actions on the market.

Anybody have any good reccomendations for a left handed rifle? I have been wanting to get into long range shooting and this is a major buzzkill.

Call Effie at the Savage, special order desk and for a small fee they'll assemble one from component parts.

Remington tools up for left-handed bolts every year right around now. You need to pounce, because they will sell them all, and once they do, you're out of luck till next fall. Not many calibers, and not the one you may want, but you can buy a .308 or .243 and get it re-barreled. A new stock and trigger will be added eventually, but you can get yourself an excellent rifle for your intended purpose, that fits you, for not too much money.

Tikka makes some excellent left-handed shooters, and they offer more calibers than Remington does. You may have just missed their annual importation of Sporters, but you might be able to find one of the T3 Varmints or Varmint Stainless'. They don't have the aftermarket the Remingtons do, but if you stumble onto a Sporter in .260, 6.5 Creedmoor, or 6.5 Swede, it wont matter, you can head straight to the range.

I am a southpaw, and I find shooting a right-handed bolt off a bench or a bipod to be very comfortable. The port is right under your nose, so you can see what you're doing when single loading, which I am usually doing.

The weak hand operates the bolt, allowing the strong hand to maintain its position. Seems better this way. Unless you are shooting from position, or shooting rapid- or timed stages, it is probably easier than finding the right left-handed bolt.

Remington, Tikka, Savage, and not much else short of going custom. They seem to be offering fewer left-handed models and calibers every year.

        Good luck!

I personally think it's a bad idea to handicap yourself by forcing yourself into the left handed guns. I know you're not wanting a lecture or my advice but I would suggest learning to adapt to right handed weapons, you thank yourself later.

I'm a lefty but I won't allow myself to do very much with my left hand. I play guitar right handed and shoot right handed guns. It's not that bad except with bolt actions you won't be able to keep your face on the stock while you operate the bolt... which shouldn't be a problem if your shooting from a bench or prone.

Normally I agree with this(I'm left handed) but my hunting rifle is. Savage left handed bolt. It's not like I'm ever going to get into a firefight with a bolt rifle so I'm not exactly building muscle memory like I do with my pistol and AR. Bolt actions are nice to go lefty.

Anything but shooting from the bench or prone and you will want that lefty bolt. I like mine. Remington 700SPS V in left hand.

I strongly believe that a left-hander should shoot left-handed rifles. Most all of my rifles are left-handed and it is much better than force-fitting a right-handed rifle in to your hands.
I have Tikka's (bolt), Remington (bolt), and Stag's (AR). Gunbroker (or equivalent) is your friend. I found my Rem 700 CDL LH that way. Savage is definitely not the only left-handed maker in the market and there are many fine left-handed guns out there. I haven't noticed that the breadth of left-handed offerings is shrinking, but you have to look.

A lot of right hand guns can accommodate the left hand shooter. I shoot both types of guns but since the world is right handed, most of my guns are right handed.

I have a Remington 788 which has the bolt on the left but the ejection port on the right. It is handier on the bench but makes no difference in the field.

For lefties shooting right handed guns, if you shoot a left handed rifle as much as you shoot a right handed gun, you'll be a lot faster and more accurate on follow up shots with the lefty.

Left handed bolt rifles are harder to find but they are out there, I have left handed bolt rifles made by Remington, Savage, Ruger, Winchester, CZ, Zastava (Mauser) and Montana Rifle Co in my safe.

Now, a thing I didnt consider when I was looking into the left handed models is the fact that I a NOT left handed but instead Left eye dominate. so bolt operation on a right handed model wouldnt be as difficult for me to operate than most left handed shooters.

Damn, now its got me thinking. Is there any benefits to having the bolt on the far side?

Yeah but it's not like a pistol where you can shoot right handed. It adjust over to your left eye. On a rifle if you are going to use your left eye you shoot with your left hand. So even if you were comfortable with your hand operating the bolt with your right hand you'd still whack yourself in the face.

I am aware i would be shooting it left handed!

I'm a left handed shooter, but every single one of my firearms is a right handed setup. I've always learned to adapt, mostly because they don't make a left handed Mosin Nagant, Arisaka, or SKS, but also because left handed versions are significantly uncommon.

Far as recommendations go, I've seen left handed Savage Axis and Remington 700's go for not that much more than a standard right handed setup.

I'm a lefty and although I have many right handed guns, I prefer to have lefty ones. I have a remington 40x left handed and two CZ's, one in 17hmr and the other in 204 ruger. The cz in 204 may become a 221 fireball though.

If your looking at a new lefty rifle, then I'd recommend the CZ's although there caliber offering is very limited
