Feedback on Marlin 1894C (2009mfgdate)

No a regular 1894 is not worth $1k. A Cowboy Limited can be had for less than that. I check gunbroker, gunshows, and plenty of gun stores regularly for JM Marlins and the only regular rifles listed that high stay listed and dont sell. When you get into the rare rifles or obscure chambers then the prices can go much higher and sell quickly.

If you're willing to pay that much, then you need to check out the Winchester (Miroku) model 92's. Those are the best of the best in that price range.

Gunbroker has JM stamped Marlins all the time cheaper. But then you have to have a local FFL, and pay their fees, and purchase gun sight unseen.

Make sure you decide whether you will ever want a scoped site or not, that will play a big part of the decision.

If it was me, I would buy a Rosi model 92. Copy of the wonderful Winchester 92. I have one in .45 Colt. No problems, I love it. Paid $550 (including all DROS fees and tax). For American made the Marlin JM is wonderful (and it takes a conventional mount scope, the Rossi will not).

yes, i literally almost impule bought it because I have been scouring the local bay area shops for a 357 lever. now, all of a sudden, my local gun shop has a 357 henry boy and this 1894C and because i was emotionally vulnerable , the wallet almost came out. to be honest, what stopped me was I was using my wife's car that day and had no registration on me for 2nd form of ID.

lever will be iron sights only. no scope. keeping it light and slim.

I will looks int othe Rossi 92 as well.
