    Feedback on Marlin 1894C (2009mfgdate)

Looking at a used Marlin 1894C. It looks like it was well taken care of, had the stock refinished to better than factory. A rear ghost sight was added to the receiver, making the sight radius longer. Bluing is very good, rifling looks good. Overall, really nice. Price is $999, which is a little pricey IMO. Might be able to talk down the shop a little on this price.

Problem I have is that it was mfg in 2009, which was after Remington bought Marlin, and there were many reports of quality issues. There are some internet reports with regards to the 1894C as well.

Cycling the action seems like it was smooth. the previous owner seemed to have taken care of it.

    Yay or Nay?

It is this, or a Big Boy Henry in 357 mag, or I could spend the extra 300 dollars and get an Uberti 1873

2010 was the full changeover year, so a 2009 made rifle is still made in North Haven and good to go. Check the barrel stamp for JM or REP.
I think that price is a little high.

Then it was made by Marlin with Marlin parts. Even though the purchase was 2007, the production stayed in Connecticut for a few years.
Buy it if that's what you want.

FWIW, the Rossi 357 levers can be had for around $459. However, I have a 2006 Marlin 1894C with Ballard rifling that shoots great. It eats 38s and 357 like they were candy and it's never had a jam. It is a great shooter.

Personally I am lusting after a uberti made 1873. The big boy I handled was a front tube loader which didn't appeal to me.

Even if it is a nice jm thats way too high a price for an 1894c. You can get cowboys for less than that. Id suggest not paying more than $650 for it at the max end.

Big 5 used to carry both Marlins & Winchesters in pistol calibers. Ive got a 1894c in 357 that I paid $370. This had to be around 2006.

Save a few bucks for a nicer rifle with a octagon barrel.

If you are set on a Marlin .357, 1k is about the going rate for one. I purchased one last year in great condition (made in 94) at it cost around 1k then as well. I also found a 30-30 that was made in 66 that appears to have never even been fired and I picked it up for 300 bucks but the .357/38 is more popular and drives a much higher price. While I would also like to find some cheaper, if they are in good condition with little issues, they are going to cost you about 1k.....or more
