    Tikka build

So I've finally started setting up my Tikka T3 Hunter in .308 that I've had for awhile. I bought the rifle on a whim when it was offered for sale at a price I couldn't say no to... The rifle was bought with the intention of using it as a hunting rifle (just getting into hunting anything over varmint size...) and the ability to work on some basic "precision" shooting. So far I have:

    - Added a Limb Saver recoil pad.

    - Tikka Performance Center Picatinny rail (If I went back in time I probably
wouldn't have bought this again; not as useful to my needs as I was
    originally and naively thinking).

    - Replaced the stock recoil lug with a steel one from Tikka Performance
    Center

    - Replaced the stock bolt shroud with one from ^^^

    - Optics/mount on the way: SWFA SS 3-15x42 and a DNZ Freedom Reaper
    mount.

    - Two point sling/extra magazines.

Anything else I am missing? I am thinking about maybe getting a muzzle brake at some point; but I don't know that it is worth it for what I want to do with this rifle. Maybe a bipod to at some point; but that wouldn't be something I leave on the rifle all the time.

If it's a lightweight barrel, it makes an excellent hunting gun just how it is.
If you find yourself wanting to use it as a target rifle, a heavier/longer barrel will be in the cards.

Here is one I rebarrelled with a heavier barrel and a muzzle brake:

    Most work performed while-you-wait.

I am in the market for the same set up in 30.06 and will be using it for the exact same reasons as you are. I think I decided against the muzzle break since I will be using it mainly for hunting. Still on the fence about that. Enjoy!! All my research says you will.

Thanks for the pic, always interested to see whats out there. I *think* that if I start shooting targets more frequently with the rifle I will purchase another rifle for the job. Maybe step up to a TRG

I read alot of good things about those Warne rings. If I did it all over again, at this point I would opt for the Sako Optilock rings (don't remember how much they would have cost) or a DNZ Game Reaper one piece mount. I'm hoping to get it dialed in within a few weeks; I'll update when that happens.

Does Tikka make 7mm-08 in 24" or 26" barrel?
I want one for 1000 yards shooting.

They do make a 7mm-08 lite version, but it's a slightly longer than 22" barrel(metric system, so whatever it comes out to in mm probably makes sense).

It slides right in between the shoulder thing that goes up and the grenade launcher.

Got the rest of my stuff in; but unfortunately the scope mount is too tall. I am thinking about taking off the Picatinny rail/returning the Freedom Reaper mount and simply running a medium height DNZ Game Reaper. Does this sound like a good idea? Or should I leave the rail on and look for a Picatinny rail setup that is alot lower? Looking at the ones I have; I'm thinking it would have to be a low mount on top of the rail...

In order of my own preference:

                            1. Go with whichever mount actually fits properly.
                            2. Build up the comb of the stock to bring your eye up to the scope.
                            3. Spend more money buying rings for a pic rail that you determined already sits too high, simply because you want a pic rail that probably isn't necessary.

I'm thinking #1 as well... thanks. I can always keep the rail and if I get another/go a different route (new stock/turn rifle into target gun/etc) I suppose I could mount it then. The Game Reaper Medium height looks like it should be about perfect. Just wish someone had them local at a reasonable price so I could eyeball them before ordering online again. Oh well..
