As much as I do not like optics planet, they have a deal on the hide for a 5.5x 22 night force.

      Badger rings
20 mil or 30 mil base

      Nightforce or better optics.

It would be fun to try out the BORS (Barret Optical Rifle System) that is a computer that mounts on your scope, that would be fun to try out. Input what it asks for and it gives you the holdover, good for those 2 mile shots in the wind

Buy steel targets and enjoy BLM land.

When shopping for an optic, don't make the rookie mistake of going after the highest magnification - x25 on the top end is plenty. Instead, you need to focus on getting an optic with a good amount of available elevation if you want to stretch the legs on that cartridge.

PS. good luck finding a decent bullet

I remember when the FCSA went to Sacramento and shot the 50bmg to show them there is very little difference between a 338 hole and a 510 hole.

One of the notable members there thought the 50 would tear the pits up and wreak havoc with the target frames.

in the end it did no damage at all so they booted it based on noise.

I don't know your location but you can shoot it at 1000 yards at the Washoe range just north of Sparks,Nevada. They also have a gong at a mile while you are there.
Ukiah has BLM and we shoot 2300 yards up there in the fall.
Petaluma has up to 300 yards if its not a 50 bmg.

Looks good. I sold one just like it last year. Go on the Barrett forums, and you will find a lot of people with good info on set-up and a lot of other stuff concerning Barrett's.

                  Congrats on the win,

I purchased mine about 6 years ago. As far as current scopes go, you would be hard pressed to find a better scope in a middle price range than a Vortex Razor HD Gen II 4.5-27x 56mm. I have S&B, USO etc. and the new Vortex has come a long way and is holding its own against some of the larger names. I will be putting one on my .416 in the not to distant future. You can check out the Barrett forums for .416 info but most of the threads have been dead for some time but every now and then someone will ask a question.

To get the best out of the rifle you need to do your own reloads. Once you get a 50bmg press and some 416 dies the rest is not too hard to find but you may have issues finding CCI 35 primers unless you order them off the net as very few CA shops will carry them. I use US869 powder which is rather easy to find here in SOCAL for some reason. I still purchase bullets from Barrett (were 395's now they are 398's) as the options are rather limited. As has already been stated, most ranges no longer allow the 416 and even the ones that still do (like Delzura) are only 300 yard ranges. Pack up the car and head East into the high desert and you will find plenty of spots.

Steiner Military with their MSR reticle will be my next scope, Tracy Tactical has the 3-15x50 and the 5-25x56 in stock if you want to check them out; they regularly sell on eBay for $2,500 and $2,800 respectively for a new, not refurbished, one, they're a little less with a Mil-Dot reticle. There's one for sale in the shopper right now http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=958942 , there's also this Schmidt & Bender PMII in the shopper http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=967943

I have the Armalite AR-50 in 416 barret. The rifle is so heavy and the muzzle break works so well. Its likes shooting a 556 rifle.I have a simple Millet LRS scope. Its a 56 mm tube .The scope comes with rings. So far at 300 rounds,no problems yet.Really clear.I get my ammo from a friend who also reloads 50 bmg. Also Check gunbroker for factory Barret ammo.Last batch I bought from some dealer out of Tenn was 5 bucks a shot shipped.that was 4 months ago.

                              Bummer.
That scope has a really limited amount of elevation travel.
It won't be a good choice for extended longrange shooting, but it will be fine out to 1000yds.
