Help me I.D my rifle please

Hi my name is Cole. I recently inherited some guns and i need help identifying and pricing a rifle that I don't plan on using much. I know that it was my grandfathers old hunting rifle and it has a custom octagon barrel chambered for a 300 weatherby 7mm. I have a few rounds and a lot of reloads but I have been warned that this gun is going to be expensive to shoot and very hard to find factory made ammo. I am way more interested in a have some other rifle good for target shooting. I have a few 22lr guns so I also want something with a bigger caliber. I am particularly interested in lever guns at the moment. All that aside can anyone help me identify this gun and help me get a ball-park price range for me. Any suggestions on a target rifle would be appreciated also. I will try to post some pictures, but this is my first attempt at a post in a forum.

Is there a manufacturers stamp on the receiver or barrel?

Need better close up pictures of the action to really get an idea.

I'm concerned with your characterization of the chambering of a 300 weatherby 7mm. I'm not aware of any reason to neck up a 7mm weatherby to a 300 or vice versa.

no. There is no manufacture stamp. There are only numbers on the receiver and barrel. I posted pictures of all numbers on it. The ones on the receiver say " BBK 02" and " L 0498 ". The barrel only says " 7mm 300wby ".

Clear close up of right rear side of reciever in the bolt handle, safety lever area would be very helpfull for ID.

Stepped trigger guard bottom metal and gas vent hole in right of reciever ring makes US Md 1917 or Brit P-14 possibilities. But it looks like it has a Win md 70 type swing safety installed on bolt shroud.

Did grandpa reload? If so, can you find the dies that were for this rifle? Did he have any extra brass? Do you have sealed boxes of factory ammo or just "some ammo" that you don't know the origins of?

Just with the pictures and little info you posted, the rifle is worth somewhere between $250 and $5000. We really need a lot more info/better pictures to make a better guesstimate.

Yes he left me extra brass, the full die set from what I know, I do not have sealed ammo but I do have a 49 loaded shells + maybe 100 empty brass that do not seemed to have been necked down yet. I have no bullets for the brass. Again I do not know a lot about guns. I will post more pictures of the action as soon as I can and look at the die set.

Great. Post pictures of any text on the dies or, at least post what they say on them and on the box too. That should help show exactly what cartridge it's supposedly chambered in.

BTW, I just found this: http://www.reloadersnest.com/frontpa...?CaliberID=240

I would also suggest keeping this rifle if it has the least bit of sentimental value to you. It really won't be expensive to shoot if you load your own rounds. Reloading is not that hard nor is it expensive to get into unless you want it to be. If you want help learning to reload, we've been running low cost clinics around the state. Or, since this is more of a wildcat round, you might want to find someone to help you one on one. What part of the state are you in?

Here are some more photos of the bolt. I do not know how to upload them to be any bigger.

                              Wow

Don't do anything drastic or quickly. Talk to a lot of people and learn what you can your Grandfather was not a casual twice a year shooter judging this one rifle. This is the type of thing in my book that qualifies as an heirloom to be passed down from generation to generation.

Did Grandfather shoot varmints? What does the rest of his collection look like?

Once you make a decision let us know if you wouldn't mind many of us get excited about guns like this.
