My bench guns have Jewel triggers, as they can be set to absolute perfection. The first 4-day precision rifle class I took in the Arizona Desert was too much for the Jewel Triggers, and they had issues.

Now all of my hunting and tactical bolt guns have plain old Timney 510s in them. You wont be disappointed.

Lets take the New Mexico PRS match where Jewells and a Calvin Elite went down. To simulate the conditions in which the competitors were shooting you need to do the following. 1. Place your rifle on the ground, bipod extended, bolt open and back. 2. Take 1 tablespoon of fine silt and distribute it along the bolt race and trigger. 3. Give the rifle a few good taps, cycle the bolt a few times. 4. Now shoot. No one here is going to do that to their safe queens intentionally. It happens sometimes during tactical precision rifle matches due to match safety rules dictating a bolt open and back condition for safety reasons. Everyone I shoot with carries an extra trigger anyways, things break.

      Agree^^^^

I saw 2 jewels tank at SCPRC in dec with light rain/high gusting wind so everything is wet enough for the sand to really stick and clump things up. A 40x? died too.

      So-

      Bench gun. Jewels are great.

      Tac match gun. Timney.

The 510 is a great trigger.....to me its just to heavy. If youre happy with 2.5lbs then I'd say get one and you'll be happy.

I ran jewels in both my comp rifles for five years without a problem......then they both went down within two months of each other. I have a couple friends that had them die within a month of using them so you just dont know what youre gonna get with the newer models.

At the NM match I saw all makes of triggers go down, even Timney 510's. I wouldn't go so far as to say you need to dump a teaspoon of silt in your trigger to simulate the conditions, there wasnt that much silt in my rifle. My jewel made it through that match without a problem......but died about a month later.

With that being said I have been running the new Timney Calvin Elite for the last two months and really like it. I have it set at 1lb and its the closest thing I can find that breaks similar to a jewel.

I think I'm going to give the Elite trigger a shot too.

            Timney Trigger in Remington 700

I guess I wasn't as specific about the topic as I should have been. I am installing in on my hunting rifle, not a comp gun. So from what I've read it sounds like I should stick to the 510

The 510 will be awesome for your hunting gun as long as you dont want it any lighter than 2.5lbs

Timney offers the 510 and 510U. From my reading, the 510U is preferred by many over the 510, hopefully someone with more knowledge will step up and enlighten us.

When i ordered mine, they set it at 1.5. You can order them that way now. Not sure if you were aware of that.

So I just installed mine (bought the 512 nickel played version to match my LSS) and boy is it clean! I mean, it's such a light pull I don't even believe it. I don't have a gage but I would imagine mine is the 1.5 or possibly even lower. I mean, it literally feels like it engages as soon as I think about pulling it. I had to dremel my stock and trigger guard just a little bit to make it for properly but now it is good to go. Glad I chose this route versus sending it back to Remington. The Timney is clearly a better trigger

So since this is my first trigger install on a precision hunting rifle, how light is too light for the trigger pull? I mean, this thing has no travel at all and feels like you just barely start to apply pressure when it goes off. It does not go off on its own from shock or dropping the rifle, but man does it feel light.

                        Hrmm....

My main hunting rig has a Jewell in it set at 2.5lbs.
I live in the Ozarks now and it's in no way a clean environment....hunted in Montana and Idaho, a bit in Alaska and the Northwest Territories.

                        It still works just fine.

Remington 700 BDLSS with a HS stock and PTG billet bottom metal, bedded and the barrel has been recut on the muzzle. I have also cut the receiver and bolt true (blueprinted? whatever that means....no one made blueprints, I just corrected the factory fubars).

Still shoots right at .400" with handloads (30-06) Nosler ballistic tip 180's or partition 165's with imr 4350 behind em.
If I want to get nasty she gets Amax 208 grainers with more 4350 and she'll do .350 and possibly better if I hold my mouth just right.

510 trigger has been a great mod for me for my hunting rifle. I did not want to sent my 700 back so I dropped one in - can't believe that I waited so long to do this - night and day comparison.

Why is it that everyone only considers Timney or Jewell for the R700.

What about triggers like the X-Treme Mod 22 or a Huber that make a 2-stage trigger? Any feedback in this department?

I have a 2-stage on my R700 and like it quite a bit better than the Timney triggers. I do not know about the longevity as I haven't tracked it through mud or heavy brush.

Well obviously 2 stage triggers are not sniper tacticool operator status. I have a 2 stage Geissele on one of my rifles and I just feel cooler shooting one of my 510 Timneys haha.
