Anyone own a Rem 700 Long Range .30-06?

I left mine stock and I mostly shoot 180gr Winchester supremes from it. I have another 300wm that I use for LR targets so I mostly use this rifle for hunting and for targets when I get the chance on short notice and don't mind scratching it up and don't have to treat it like glass if you wanted to make a good LR shooter out of it I would get a little more serious with the stock but its great all around being lighter weight with a full block

Eventually, I will upgrade the rifle when I can afford it. I just want to make the most out of the rifle with some small upgrades over time like a detachable mag set up and maybe glass bedding. The rifle will outshoot me for sure so I'm not in a hurry to upgrade.

I have had great luck bedding just the recoil lug in an aluminum block. I know many others have had similar experiences. And I will always recommend getting a wheeler fat wrench so you can go back to your favorite torque on your action screws.

I might have a takeoff heavy .30 cal barrel that wants to get screwed onto an action. 1:13 twist though. Just in case you want to have randal rechamber it while he's sticking a break on it. :P

If you pay retail for the new 06, and take a loss on your old 06…
Wouldn't it be better to take the existing action and have a new barrel chambered and cut just how you like it? Streeeeeetch a couple hundred more and send it to a Cerakote and have a "new" rifle.

The 155 grain sierra palma matchking at 3000fps is considerably better at 1000 yards vs a 175 smk or simlar at 2750fps. More energy velocity less drop and wind deflection. Plus he can shoot the same ingredients in his M1. Bigger is not always better Also the palma bullets are cheaper.

175 smk isn't a heavier bullet for the 30-06 like I was referring too. The reason I say bigger bullets he might want to shoot is because one edge the 30-06 has over the .308 is the ability to send heavy bullets (like the 208 amax) at respectable speeds compared to the .308 trying to do the same.

Though I do shoot both 155 palma and 175 smk in my .308, the 155's palma are almost never cheaper than the 175 smk's. 155's are actually a good deal more expensive.

I would have to break it down by price but I don't see how I could do a semi-custom build for the price of a new factory rifle.

Hahaha was just giving advice , I love it but my friend that was a LAPD sniper said he didn't like the recoil, to much compared to his work piece.

I hope you find your rifle and it lives up to it's reputation and your expectations. I extensively shoot a Remington 700 LA .30-06 that I bought in '74 and later put in a Rem synthetic stock. It's an exemplary rifle that I have put untold thousands of slugs through; a case of familiarity breeding respect. It wears a Nikon 4x16x42 SF MD scope; as good an optic as I've ever used. I primarily shoot Sierra 168 gn bullets from Nosler cases, pushed by H4350, and that old rifle performs better today than it did out of the box. I have two other .30-06 rifles, a Rem 760 BDL and a custom '03 Springfield sporter, but the Rem 700 is my default long gun. With the right bullet and powder choice, my 700 would be usable for anything in North America. When you find your rifle, wring it out, and give us a report on it. Good luck!

Outdated in what way? Ballistics are ballistics whether the case is 100 years old or 10 years old. I load the 208 A-Max and 215 Hybrid in my current .30-06. The 215 hybrid has a better BC than most 7mm or 6.5mm bullets I've seen. If I can hit 2,800 fps with it, that's good enough for me.
