Anyone own a Rem 700 Long Range .30-06?

I just saw that Remington finally started building a heavy barrel .30-06. It's the Long Range model with the 26" varmint barrel and B&C M40 stock. I was considering selling my SPS in .30-06 and picking one up. Anyone own one? How is the M40 stock? Can it be inletted for a detachable mag bottom metal?

It's model number 84166 for those interested.

It's probably too new to be in wide enough circulation.
It can certainly be inletted for bottom metal.

I think they came out early this year. I was calling around to some local shops to find one but all the shops pulled their 700s to ship them back for the recall.

Thats a pretty slick looking rifle. It woukd be easy to build one just like it assuming you dont find a factory one.

This is the only model that Remington makes with a heavy barrel chambered in .30-06. I would have to find a .308 varmint barrel, re-chamber it to .30-06 and have it put on a donor action. At that point I would just do a custom build. I can't afford that right now so the Long Range in .30-06 works until I can.

Well, you could put your purse between the stock and your shoulder so it won't hurt so much.

lol now who didn't see that coming
I'm only smiling at you while you talk to me because it's hilarious that you really think I give a crap about you.

As I've gotten older I thought I was gaining patience, then I realized I simply don't give a crap.

If your going with a LA build, have you considered other calibers for long range work?
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

I'm not building a rifle. This is a factory rifle that I want to buy.

I would probably stick with .30-06. It may not set the world on fire but it has good ballistics and good barrel life. I don't compete, yet, so it works for me.

I load the 208 A max and 215 hybrid in the SPS, which is way lighter. I plan on having Randall thread the barrel for a brake anyways.

Hahaha was just giving advice , I love it but my friend that was a LAPD sniper said he didn't like the recoil, to much compared to his work piece.
