I have put a big scratch in a pre 64' mod 70 and cracked the stock of a Weatherby while out pig hunting.

I plan on eating the kill, so I was thinking the right caliber will kill effectively and not blow the animal up...



My 300 win mag is a good all around caliber for No. American game...just might be a bit over kill for a pig......

I've seen what a mule deer looks like when it's been hit with one of these magnums. With the right bullet placement, head, neck, just behind the shoulder, it will anchor them. If you hit either shoulder or ham, particularly a major bone, don't plan on salvaging much of that entry or exit point.

That extra 200-300 fps can make quite a difference. Large caliber and slow generally yields the most meat.

the 130 gr.tsx: s.d. 266, b.c. 365, requiring a rifling of 8.5 or faster.

i didn't get mine to group well before i set it aside but have been told i need to up the speed.

None of the bullets have ever exploded. Most penetrated completely or were found under the skin in the far side.

The hydrostatic shock caused by high speed bullets will cause a lot of blood shot meat. Particularly if a major bone is impacted. That's why just behind the shoulder, into the heart and lungs is preferred. Head or neck is ideal. Bloodshot ribs is no big deal compared punching one or both of the front shoulders.

30 cal..plenty around and in diff weights...if u reload. the cartridges can have light loads for small game or just plinking..

If you wanna hotload them for distance and power...the 30.06 will leave the .308 in the dust..

.308 is enough for most anything. .30-06 is obviously good too since .308 was based on it. Most hunters will agree that .30-06 is the better all around caliber but you can't go wrong with .308.

.308 was originally designed for semi autos and it's been the snipers choice until the afghan war when snipers started to regularly shoot out past 1000 meters.

Anything .243 and higher IMO.

I've shot them with .270, .45-70 (marlin guide gun) and a .300WM.

All 3 calibers did their job just fine, shot placement is king. Making a decision on what type of rifle you want is equally as important. Figure out what type of terrain and what distances you want to be able to make a shot and go from there. I will say that .300WM wasnt necessary.
