Which Caliber ?

The one I shot with copper out of a .300 win mag barely damaged anything. The whole reason people are so upset about copper is the lack of expansion in the bullets. So I really wouldn't worry about overkill or meat damage on a .308 in a soon to be all copper state.

Yes, some copper rounds are having expansion issues. I would suggest the Barnes triple shock. It does very well.

I'm not an expert on wild pig hunting, but FWIW, remember seeing an ammo manufacture coming out (I think Remington) with 223/556 ammo made just for hog hunting. There was an article awhile back in a firearms magazine. I can post it if you like.

How about build up on a Tikka action?? Those Finns sure know how to build rifles.

There is value in familiarity of operation amongst all your rifles.
With that in mind, look at a Remington Model 7 as a viable option.
Going a little cheaper, a typical SPS with it's 22" 308 sporter barrel would make a great pig gun.

.308 or .300Savage(basis for 308) in used Savage 99. Great action, and the 308 has better ballistics than 30-30.

Or, a Browning BLR in 308, 270...

Taken hog with 300 savage in Mdl 99. The 308 is based on the 300 Savage, and is just a tad faster.

300 Savage is a fine classic cartridge.

I have taken hogs with 7.62x39 and .300Savage it is possible. However you have to have sure aim and know your targets anatomy.

I plan on eating the kill, so I was thinking the right caliber will kill effectively and not blow the animal up...

My 300 win mag is a good all around caliber for No. American game...just might be a bit over kill for a pig......

Not overkill at all. Especially with copper bullets, that'll leave a nice hole in the pig. The three hundo is my pig gun of choice and it drops pigs very humanely. The round is authoritative and man is it fun to shoot. When I shoot deer and pig, I don't even notice the recoil, while at the bench, well it's pretty brutal without a sled. I shoot a Weatherby vanguard sub-moa model. If you have a three hundo, why not shoot it?
