    REM 700 ...Trigger Options ?

I want to upgrade my factory trigger on a new 700 Long Action. Any suggestions ? The factory adjustment screw doesn't really make much difference if any.

prefer something I can do myself

    TIA

I upgraded the stock trigger with a Jewel trigger and it worth every dollars. It's an easy job and you can find the detail instruction on Youtube.

Lots of options out there. FWIW, I got a Timney and love it.

I use Timneys on all my 700's. Look at Redhawkrifles.com Cheapest price on the web for the trigger. Last one I bought was in February and paid $110 before shipping.

In my opinion, it doesn't get any better than a Jewell.

                  Buy once, cry once.

Jewel if its a bench queen.

Timney, if you use your rifle in the dirt.

I just put a rifle basix LV-1 on my 700 and its great.
Only problem is I see more drop in triggers in my future.

If you have an OLD STYLE trigger, you can get a softer spring for it for around $3 which will improve the adjustment response.
The factory springs are short and stiff so they don't really respond well to adjustment.
The reduced power springs are lighter and longer so they adjust easily.

If you have any of the X-Mark triggers, don't even bother trying to adjust them.
Just replace it with a Timney.

I let my gunsmith do it, and he did a great job.

He has since retired, and now I have a new gunsmith. He is good too though.

                          2 1/2 lbs (40 oz's) is perfect for hunting.

X-treme makes a wonderful two stage. (Maybe the only two stage)

As another poster said , Jewell for a safe/bench queen, for prone, positional shooting or hunting, get the Timney.
