A good reason to reload it. Runs around 53 cents per round if you already have 308 brass

Now on to rings. I started looking but again so many options. I understand the quality part. But high low this that. I got a little confused and overwhelmed again.

Suggestions on what to look for and what does what?

I too like the B&C series of stocks. I run the Medalist M40 and it gave a much needed and welcome upgrade to the factory SPS Tactical stock without breaking the bank.
Hello Op and all LDPS Calgunners,

Just a general question, I realize that the factory Remington stock is to be replaced, period. However, is there a significant return on investment with each progressive jump in price point? i.e. Do increases in functionality decrease at a certain point once you go up from there?

Do you guys actually see a " difference " between for example a B&C Medalist M40 and a Manners ( or any of the higher end aftermarket products. )

I appreciate everyone's time and look forward to meeting some of you guys for some fun shooting.

            Rem 700sps Tactical .308

            I Did I bought a scope.

Bought the Vortex PST 6-24 FFP MRAD EBR-1.

It was what I can afford without going up to the $2k+ range.

At least that's what I think.

I also only paid $825 for it. Brand new. Army Ranger community friend. Owns a store and helped me out with the price.

            Can't wait to get it.

Now for mount. Rings. And so I am told a Stock.

I think I am quite a ways out from Reloading.

I need trigger time behind it while saving money to get to reloading.

It depends… on what you consider an investment. I’m sure there comes a point of diminishing returns on the very high end / exotic but I still find value in to higher end price points.

Some people look for certain features or have a preference to a stock because of ergonomics.

Start looking at prices of various stocks, bedding, detachable box magazine / bottom metal, and possibly even inletting and you can get a solid idea of how everything stacks up.

After going through that exercise and wanting something with features and ergo that works for me, I ended up with an AICS chassis... that's something I consider and investment, it fits me very well and I shoot better because of it. Ill keep that chassis longer than the barrel and action and eventually put something new in it when the time comes...

The B&C M40 stock is just something I picked up to replace that terrible Hogue stock on a budget build. Its great for what it is and the cost is right in line with what I wanted to pay.

Extreme X: Thanks for sharing your wisdom. It looks like I will be embarking on an Odyssey of learning what works best for me. But it's good to know there are others on Calguns who have found that odyssey to be revealing and rewarding. I think I'll take it a step at a time and be very certain of each decision. I'm a bit aways from AICS but I'm sure it will make onto the radar in due time.

Op: Thank you for starting this thread.

The best thing to do is to get behind as many stocks as you can find and see which one feels best. Its very much a personal prefrence thing. Glock vs 1911 and all that.

Next time your are at the range, just ask a guy with a stock you think is interesting if you can dry press a few. Granted, the cheek peice may not line up with the scope, but try and get comfortable any way with out looking through the scope - comfort is key.

I spent several years with a McMillan A-5 and woke up one day and hated it. I don't like the Manners pistol grip angle. I can't get comfortable with the AR Pistol grip type chassis.

Now I shoot AIAX (have 2 of them). Absolutely love them for what I do - half prone, half positional/props.

On the other hand, I have a varmint rilfe with a B&C Medalist Varmint - for $250, it the best stock for the money - for me.

Difference in headspace. From what I understand, don't use .308 in a 7.62x51 chamber.

BTW thanks for the heads up.

Each rifle I struggle to save money for a scope...usually costs twice as much as the rifle. I'm stuck on NightForce NSX scopes , Base & Rings.

My next R700 will be in 308 ( I Think ) and I want another NSX scope but am seriously considering a Nikon Monarch. Years ago I had a phone conversation with the president of Night Force ( 1993 ) and I asked him if he had to choose another scope other than his brand....he said Nikon. I think because the Japanese do make good glass...There's my 2 cents
