Closing the range at Chabot?

There's a movement underway that seeks to force the closure of the shooting range at Chabot Regional Park.

This petition to the East Bay Regional Park District board of directors states:
"We support the Chabot Gun Club marksmanship range as a safe place to shoot. This is a valuable community resource in that it promotes firearms training and their safe use among local citizens."

Last time I check, there were only a hundred or so people sign to close Chabot, including some complete irrelevant people from Canada or Europe.

There are more than two millions people in Contra Costa and Alameda counties served by Chabot, not sure how a few hundred anti's can really represent the rest of us.
Also local PDs and DHS are probably on our side, since they too use Chabot regularly for training.
