The CZ also has a single set trigger...push it forward to set, and you've got like a 2 pound pull.

Fast as a charging Cape Buffalo you just wounded on your first shot? I love my No. One but I would want a double rifle or bolt gun if I was shooting something that could kill me. Or even a big moose that could run away while I was fumbling to load my single shot for a follow up. Just saying.'Yes but it can be quickly loaded and fired fairly fast
It is smaller and more compact than a bolt action in the same caliber
A 24" barrel #1 will be the same size as a 20" barrel bolt gun.

Well, the problem with dbl guns are they are prohibitively expensive for a decent rifle.
Sadly,I am of the budget where I carry my own rifle and quarter and carry my take.
If I had more money, then maybe, but decent dbl guns are spendy
I like the idea of a $2k rifle and a $5k hunt better than a $7k dbl gun and sitting on the couch snd saying "pew pew"
YMMV
I appreciate everyone's input, but it seems it is going to be the CZ 550 American Safari for $1k and a low power scope.sigpic

I took a CZ-55- Safari to Africa in 2009
I used 270 gr Remington Cor-lokt as I found those to be most accurate in my rifle.
They were very effective on plains game with 1-shot kills on Hartebeest, Gemsbok and a rather big Kudu. A Blue wildebeest took two to bring down.
I used a Trijicon 1x4 with a red dot post sight on it which was very useful on the Kudu as I took it at the tail end of dusk.
The set trigger on the CZ is very nice to have I used it when I thought of it, but had no troubles when I didn't.
Good luck and have a great hunt!sigpicNRA Benefactor MemberComment

We did a group buy for Zastava Mausers (the old Charles Daly/Remington 783 guns) last year with a distributor out of Las Vegas. I posted the buy here on Calguns. I got a LH 458 Win mag and we bought over 80 left handed rifles in various chamberings.Frank

Been watching this thread and dreaming of getting something along these lines. My goal is to eventually hunt a Cape Buffalo, and then maybe a Water Buffalo in Australia. Given that the .375 seems to be the bare minimum allowed, that's what I've been keeping an eye out for... but I'd be just as happy with a bigger hole in the barrel.
Personal preference is an older, classic gun. A double would be an absolute wet dream, but waaay out of my price range. I'd rather not buy an expensive rifle and go to Africa once, but buy a more affordable rifle and go to Africa a couple times. Something that's been to Africa a couple times would be ideal. I don't mind scratches. It adds character. As long as it shoots well.
First choice for me, Pre 64 Model 70, in .375 H&H, maybe .458 Win. Absolutely kicking myself for letting a local one get away on Gunbroker last year. Guy didn't want cash and do a C&R, and the bidding went too high for me. Fair enough, I should have bought it if I wanted it.
Kimber Talkeetna. Very nice rifle if you can find one. One or two seem to come up for sale on GB yearly. About $2000, stainless, and I could use it in Alaska if I ever wanted to see what rain really is.
CZ 550 - I've played with this one and for me, seems to be the best bang for the buck. Very likely I'll grab one of these sometime if I don't find a Mod 70.

I see an Inertarms Mk X Mauser or an older Winchester 70 375 just about every auction from Lock Stock and Barrel in Simi Valley. They seem to go for under a grand. 750-900 bucks.Comment

dunno what it is about lock stock and barrel but they seem to specialize in that kind of rifle? I always enjoy looking at their auctions.Comment

I disagree, but I suppose if I had the ability to I would put double set triggers on all of my firearms, including pistol.Comment

Slo...go with the CZ. Understand I've not fired another 375, but the CZ is a class act. Comortable, accurate, big 'ol fat Mauser claw, set trigger, 5 round capacity. Not as much aftermarket support as, say, Remington or Winchester, but out-tha-box, a CZ is awesome. I've never regretted getting a CZ over another brand.Comment

I forgot, but if you actually plan to use a scope, then the American stock is probably best for you. What I liked about the Bavarian is when I put one up to shoulder (a 527 in a gunshop) my eyeballs were already dead nuts on the irons. Had I a stock like that then a scope on it, my so called "cheekweld" would be a so called "jaw weld"
My CZ does not wear "back up" irons. It wears irons.Comment
