Yep, giving it even more consideration now. Not that I "need" this or am in a hurry per se, but I did not expect middle of the year retail release. if it was out now, I likely would have bought it already. So, if I can make the numbers work I could do it today, but not in a big rush.

Above you say 20", don't you mean 24" barrel though?

Part of my goal is to really match that retail model, as I dig the specs and build styling, would be for a custom build to match close. For example, for MSRP of $1400 - but i have already seen it listed at $1100 on sites as the actual retail - I like item to item match BUT I am willing to change on barrel to a longer threaded barrel than 16.25". Other than that, I want that chassis with side mag release as we talked, 5.56, the full picatinny rail will be needed (as opposed to some of the MVP's 2 piece bases), the nicer newer tactical bolt handle versus those on other MVP's, bipod I have but if the price suddenly gets up around 1100-1200 you get the bipod on the retail version. Plus then I would need the muzzle device of choice, and stock/buffer/tube/nut and maybe cheek weld, grip/screw, 10rnd pmag, etc. etc. So, your list is close, but not 100% of all of what I would need to custom build up so not having seriously run numbers yet, I then wonder if 900 goes to 1000 goes to 1100ish and the next thing you know, you could be at the retail 1100ish and get more than a custom build might provide in 1 simple purchase.

Just something I need to try and sit and think through and crunch piece by piece numbers when time allows as on face value, a custom build "seems" like it might be some money savings BUT at the end of the day, if I match item for item on what one gets with the retail model, how much the final savings truly is matters if it is worth the effort for say $100-200 savings.

I 100% appreciate your offers and certainly want to investigate it, but I need to find time to sit down and get a true apples to apples comparison as I like the retail model and about the only things I would change on the retail IF I went custom would be: not so sure I want a CTR as not a big fan. I tend to like the ACS. Longer 24" barrel over a 16.25" could be real beneficial. The bipod is nice, but my GG&G is better.

On a custom build it seems I need:

    chassis
    grip/screw
5.56 action and adjustable trigger (taken from another MVP rifle/predator)
24" threaded barrel (taken from another MVP rifle/predator)
    stock/buffer/tube/nut and maybe cheekweld
    muzzle device
    picatinny base
    10rnd pmag x1
    bipod
    possible bolt handle mod

I think you could do the barrel however you want from Tromix, and get the exact barrel specs to your desire. The rifle comes with a mag, but if you want a Pmag, its 15 bucks or so. Bolt handle you can do yourself for around $40 roughly. I was thinking the 20" barrel because it is longer than the 16.25, and it comes with the threaded barrel from the factory. You can use the 1:9 to push a 69gr SMK from Federal Gold Medal Match very well to get out to 800y or so, possibly longer. The buttstock complete assembly with buffer tube, stock, and castle nut is $89 on sale pretty regularly from Palmetto, and you could sell the spring and buffer to offset it a bit. Sell the Predator stock for $80-100 depending on the market to also offset some of it. Grip screw should come with whatever grip you decide on also, and if not it is only about a dollar.

In all reality, you could come up with one for dang near the same price if you can just find an action without the barrel and have Tromix fix you up with one. For that rifle, I would go with something like a Miculek brake for $30 bucks and is just about identical to a Holland QD brake for WAY less. The other thing you may need is a cheek riser but those are $18 on Amazon.com. Plus, I can help you out with a few of those items again. Check the boards on Mossbergmvp.com and see if there are parts for it you may want or need.

I may have Tony Rumore of Tromix make me a 1" full bull stainless 1:8 in a .223 Wylde chamber. I think that is the best of all worlds.

          Just purchased a MVP

I had just finished at the range and went to Big 5 to check on 22lr ammo. Found the MVP in .223 on sale so I bought it! Now I need a good but cost effective scope. I have narrowed my search to the Tasco 6-24x42 Target Varmit or the Barska 10-40x50 AO Varmit Target. I plan to use the MVP for target shooting at 100+ yds.

Anyone running either of these or another scope in a similar power?

          Thanks!

^^^ you will get zero reliable nods on those scopes...

If you define "cost effective", you will get very good references/recommendations.

Both of these scopes are @ 1/2 their original prices. The Barska is $90 and the Tasco is $72

I found both on Amazon and each had pretty decent reviews. $100 - $150 price point would be where I am looking.

              Thanks!

I like mine. I bought a second one that's still in the box un-fired for a rainy day.

And frankly, you should increase your scope budget. General rule of thumb is it should cost about what your rifle cost.

Wow you just made me feel a whole lot better about spending $1400 on a scope for a $1400 rifle.
