    PMC bronze is plinking ammo.

Seriously... for precision shooting, there are only two types of ammo you should be looking at:

    1) commercial MATCH grade (Federal Gold Medal Match or equivalent)

    2) Reload your own

Stuff like AE XM80, PMC Bronce, Prvi 145 gr FMJ is simply not designed for precision shooting...
    • Bullets will vary in weight and dimension.
    • Powder charge will vary in volume.
    • Brass will be crimped to varying degrees resulting in inconsistencies.

What sets apart match grade ammo is just the opposite especially when you load your own.
    • You set the overall length/seating depth of the bullet to optimize the distance to your barrel's throat.
    • You weigh every powder charge to maintain consistency for all your rounds.
    • You forgo crimping the bullets to remove a variable from your load.
    • You can fire form and neck size your brass so it matches the contour of your barrel's chamber.

I'll state it again: If you're not willing to $pend money for factory match ammunution, or spend the time and learn to reload your own, PRECISION shooting is not for you.

If you just want to throw lead downrange and make BANG-BANG noises, XM80, PMC, Wolf, Brown Bear, Silver Bear, Yellow Tiger... they all work. And you can do that with a $500 Saiga.

Most ranges will not allow you to shoot XM80 because the bullet is magnetic, i.e. steel jacketed or steel core. They're afraid that the steel will spark against rocks and ignite forest fires.

For plinking, Prvi 145 gr is cheap.

Prvi Partizan 308 Winchester (7.62X51) ammo for sale at AmmoToGo.com - Don't miss these 20 round packs of 145 Grain Full Metal Jacket Boat Tail (FMJ-BT) ammunition in-stock now.

It shoots ~1 MOA in my rifle... largest group would MAYBE be 3 MOA and thats with a hot barrel.

The two terms, TO ME, seem incompatible.

            "target shooting" and "bulk ammo".

I suppose targets can be anything, like a microwave, but Im thinking a bolt, in .308 and target, TO ME, mean a precision shooting.

Personally, I wouldn't burn my barrel with the XM80 military stuff since it tends to have a bimetal jacket that is more abrasive. That said, it seems that some overrated their handloads and underrate factory ammo. Good match ammo is obviously better, but there are some factory bulk rounds that are sufficiently consistent that'll do <1 MOA at 100 yards, easily. 1" at 100 yards is a giant target. Keep in mind, even if the box says "match" doesn't make it great if you are buying from a fly by night or crappy manufacturer.

what is the difference between 308 and 7.62X51 ? I have a Czech BRNO 7.62X51 Mauser. it is stamped 7.62 on bottom of butt stock and on reciever . the six pointed star is next to the 2 in 7.62 on receiver.
is one hotter than other? I bought 1 box of Winchester 7.62X51 for after I get it re-parkerized.

Don't confuse the differences between 5.56x45 vs. .223Rem and 7.62x51 vs. .308Win. They're opposite from each other.

The chamber pressure ratings are lower in 7.62 NATO than in .308 Win.

The chamber pressure ratings are greater in 5.56 NATO than in .223 Rem.

In regards to the 7.62 vs. .308, the external physical dimensions are either the same or so close that they won't make a difference in how the round is chambered.

The NATO round is loaded to lower pressure ratings, and the commercial .308 is loaded to higher pressure rating.

Some might argue that NATO chambers are not up to the task of handling the hotter commercial .308 ammo, but I've never had a problem, I've shot 7.62 and .308 and never experienced any problems regardless of the rifle.

I came into some of this ammo in trade but didn't realize it's magnetic until I took it to the range

I've got a whole bunch of Hornady steel match 308 for sale.which I think would fit your needs. To me its the perfect practice match ammo if you dont reload. Just to give you an idea i get .75 moa from it out of fn spr vs .5 from FGMM. Its much cheaper though. I use it mainly for fowler rounds and plinking steel. pm me if you are interested

oh and it uses non steel 155gr match bullets, which means you can shoot it at any range
