6x on the bottom end for pig hunting?
    Good luck with that...

1x-4x scopes are much more appropriate to the task.

Sorry, I feel better now, and will go back to reading this thread and other threads.

I think we were advising him; it's better to wait and save up another ~$100-$150 as it buys so much more quality.

He wants to hunt pigs and one of the recommendations was the Leupold VX-HOG 1-4x20mm Riflescope with the Pig-plex reticle for $229, no tax, no shipping from Opticsplanet. This was $50 over budget and a better scope specifically designed for his purpose.

Bingo's point is spot-on. Not every scope application is a NightForce or Milspec tactical miracle. 30-06 is a stout round and ideas for hogs. He needs a scope that will hold up as a brush gun with a big caliber year after year.

the OP acknowledged that already. He wanted recommendations within budget with the full understanding that you generally get what you pay for. I interpreted that to mean he did not want to buy an $80 scope and pay $150 for it.

A used Vari-X II is definitely within his budget, albeit above 150. And since he was looking at junk $80 scopes that are every bit as good as $30 gunshow scopes, there was no reason not to consider the $80-90 Bushnell banner, which is every bit as good as scopes above $100 mark.

These are great scopes that do not break the bank. One even has pedigree. At least as much as the VX-Hog but for probably $70 less.

            Hog hunting +$180 budget = Weaver 1-3x20.

Japanese/Phillipenes/Korea glass is far better than Chinese glass in similar price range scopes.

Always buy the best you can, you will be happy you did. Remember the profit margins on optics.

for $180 - I am pretty sure that I saw someone selling a Leupold vx1 2-7x33 on here somewhere recently for 150-160? not sure of the location though.

I'd steer away from VX-1's since VX-II's are so much better for very little more $.

I would buy a VX-I over other lower priced scopes if I were pinched for pennies.
