    What scope to use?

I have purchased a Ruger All American 3006 for Pighunting. I will be using this 3-5 times a year. My shots will be 100-150max yards. I will not be using this for "target practice"
What would be the best scope for the little money I have. Unsure of the magnification as well. I have $180 max to spend.
I saw a Pentax Gameseeker II 3-9x40mm Drop compinstating Reticle, h20o proof gas filled... Lifetime warrienty New $69.99 shipped to my house $79.99
I did read a lot of positives on this scope. I have good eyesight with no long distance correction. Yet.
I do realize you "get what you pay for". Having said that I have $180 max, momma said!
Any help or suggestions would be very helpful,
    Old Guy.
Thanks CalGuns for all that you do for us!Happy new Year!!!

The 3-9X will be fine as will a 1-4X, a 2-8X, etc. I wouldn't go any higher in power on the low end for your requirements.

Pentax makes great binoculars but I've never seen one of their rifle scopes.

This may be stretching, but still comes under the $180 cap. Redfield Revolution 2-7x33. made by leupold here in the US and pretty much the VX1 scope. Great picture quality for the price. With the 5% calguns coupon, should be $171 shipped. the Ruger All American has those weaver style bases, so plenty of ring choices out there.

When you can, invest into your optics. You'll be happy with this guy.

I would get a fixed Weaver K4 or K6 in your budget. Something like this : http://www.midwayusa.com/product/174...-reticle-matte

Very rugged and clear. Fixed Scopes are light weight and have fewer lenses and moving parts making them more reliable than a variable.

Buy the American made Redfield and you have the leupold warr if you ever need it.
Personally I would streach it and get the 3X9X40 with Duplex reticle. For hunting
I have never had a use for the bullet drop feature. Just sight it in 2.75" high at 100 yards and hold on the animal and you will have meat in the freezer.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

I've gone with Nikon and have had no problems.
Never actually found much negative feed back from others either.

Buy as much glass as you can afford. It's simply astonishing how much better glass gets with a little more investment. There is a tipping point of lots of money with diminishing rates of return.

I have a crystal clear weaver fixed 4x that is 25 years old I bought gently used at a local shop for $35. It's my "goto" little scope when I buy a new rifle and need to save up for a decent scope.

Once a person buys a great scope like the Zeiss Conquest for $350 on SWFA's Sample list; http://www.samplelist.com/Zeiss-3-9x...-B-P67505.aspx

Leupold vari-x II for about $300, plus Opticsplanet has a 10% coupon right now "HUNT10P".

Maybe most important: Leupold has a specific Hog Scope and OpticsPlanet has a great price on it; http://www.opticsplanet.com/leupold-...ope-matte.html It's $229!!

This above Leupold Hog scope has simply beautiful glass! It's the same lenses and coatings as the Mark 4 Tactical scopes. This scope is very bright and clear from the very edge of the glass to the other side.

                  Good luck,

                  -NordicDave

I agree with NordicDave. Save a little more money and buy a good quality scope.

I hear good things about Redfield and have a pair of their binoculars of which I am completely. I'm somewhat biased and would go with Leupold as I have two
                    on my rifles.

                      Redfield

I recently purchased the Redfield Revolution 2-7x33 with the Accu-Range reticle for my AR and am VERY happy with it. American made by Leupold in Beaverton, Oregon and Lifetime warranty!

Does it actually state "Made in USA" on the scope?

I note that the statement "Made in USA" is missing in the attached picture.
It does state that it is designed, machined and assembled here though.
That means that they did not use enough domestically produced parts to be considered "Made in USA".

Get a 3x9 and spend at least $300.

I got a konus mildot scope for 159, shockingly clear glass and very smooth operation.

I'm going to buy another one to put on my bull barrel 06 while I save up for a NF.
