Nope. He doesn't make any money swapping barrels or bolt work or trigger work on a Savage, so he talks trash about them. He suggests getting a Remington 700 because they are "better."

AR15Barrels works on my savage. He'll work on it again soon actually....

All the parts should be arriving this week for me to switch out to 6.5 creedmoor- Brass, bullets, dies, barrel and brake. *everything* except powder....

I'll have AR15Barrels headspace the new barrel (I know he has gauges), cut it to length, thread it, install/time the brake... all while we clown each other (and savage) and I drink his beer.

I'm giving serious though on building a full custom rifle- starting with a custom action- Leaning towards Defiance but I'm not sure....

When I do have the action and barrel/brake.... AR15Barrels will be the guy putting that together too. Obviously *you* dont know Randall like I do....

Lots of people bring me savage rifles to work on.
I talk trash about them because they are inferior rifles.
Anyone who shoots them enough will eventually run into their shortcomings and figure it out on their own.

So I have the following gun and would some input on what i should look out for.
Just curious what you have seen.

Poor bolt lift and extraction issues.
If you can get past the bolt lift (I can't), the gun will probably serve you just fine.

While all the above is true.... I would point out that at least 3 rifles had trigger issues at the SCPRC Sat/Sun.... 2?-3? Jewell triggers and one rem trigger had severe issues dealing with the rain and dirt. The Rem trigger locked up and the competitor had to completely drop out of the match. The 2?-3? jewells were able to continue limping along.



One guy with the jewell that told me about it... said he'd pull the trigger, and 3 seconds later it might fire... Then, pull the trigger, wait..... jiggle the bolt, and it would fire.

Have you ever seen me recommend a jewel on a bolt gun that you get dirty?

this thread is funny (not laugh funny, or weird funny, but 'notable' funny). I've only owned one savage that I sold for unrelated reasons (wanted a claw extractor afterall), but you and the other guys zeroed in on exactly the one issue I had with the savage.

It was by far the most accurate rifle I owned. By far. easy to shoot, I liked the fit, the recoil pad was great, used AICS mags (for me that's actually a negative but I think calgunners in general would see that positively), bolt was better than decently smooth out of the box. Great trigger (great trigger). But that bolt was sticky during unlock. Real sticky. Only fault on the whole rifle.

For the 100'th time, the internet proves to me that I am not unique nor are my thoughts, ideas, or experiences. That I can never say "well, maybe it's just me?"

When you are "in position", the ease of operating the action is a significant factor in how "shootable" a gun is.
If operating the bolt causes you to move off target, you are going to spend more time getting back on target.
The more time you spend fighting a gun to get back on target, the more fatigued you get.
The more fatigued you get, the less stable you get.
The less stable you get, the more shots you throw.
The more shots you throw, the more frustrated you get.
The more frustrated you get, the more fatigued you get.
The more fatigued you get, the more shots you throw...

You can see where this ends up and it's not good.
