    Remmington 700 Varmint

I did some searching and couldn't find too much info, so I though I could start a new thread...

I saw dick's (I think) has 700 varmints in sale on Black Friday for $399. Doesn't say what caliber or what exact model.
Would this be an okay bolt action to start with and learn on? I haven't shot one in years and I'd like to get back to it.
It will be used mostly at 100yds as that's what most of the local ranges have.

Not sure what you're asking about. 700 Varmint is a manually operated bolt rifle, probably chambered in .223/5.56 or .308win. Start on a .223 bolt action as the rounds are plentiful, cheap, and accurate. Build it up as needed from there once you get comfortable and familiar with how things work. Take a clinic on rifle basics, safety, and proper use of a bipod, sling, and other techniques. Spend a bit on learning how to do things properly and it will go a lot further than dropping more money on a spendier rifle. Good luck and ask questions.

Back to your original question, Yes, a great rifle to have and a good price. Make sure it is a 700 and not another model as they sell cheaper models with a different number instead of 700 and people sometimes get confused.

The quintessential first buy for someone getting into precision shooting right there. The stock is near terrible, but just the action itself is worth more than that sell price.

How much do they normally sell for? $600?

the only bad thing about the rem 700 Varmint in 223 is that they only offer a 1-12 twist...

I paid $600 for mine a few months ago. $350 is dirt cheap.

They also offer them in 22-250 if you want more than a .223

Sure this is not for last year? They had this sale last year.

You probably paid $600 for a BDL, not an ADL.

I considered getting an ADL last year from them, but I didn't, because the .223 versions are 1:12 twist only.

Some "entry level" rifles do not have the 700 action. Axis I believe is one of them.
