It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

There were still M2s in the inventory in some Calif high school armorys in the 60s. Most of the time we shot small bore at a indoor range. Most of the 03, 03A3s and other firearms were ceremonial and deactivated. But not all, it was a different time back then. One of my Grandmother's was on her Calif high school rifle team.

There was still a small bore range in the basement of the university I went to in 2003

My daughters were briefly in my R&G Clubs junior rifle team. Unfortunately the coach was not good with kids. He basically yelled at all the kids for not knowing what he didn't teach them (three position smallbore).

I was very proud of them and was getting into it, but then after a harsh yelling to, one daughter just looked at me and said "I don't want to do this anymore".

But at the time they were in the team, it was made up of 6 girls and 2 boys.

Believe it or not UCLA had a hunting and shooting club into the late 70's. We had an account with Booge Mercer's Oak Tree Gun Club when the main building was a trailer. I even borrowed a full choke Remington 1100 barrel that the club owned and used it for hunting jack rabbits near Victorville and Little Lake up 395 in the desert and returned it when I graduated. I doubt they still have it.

Six rifles, three with open bolts, three with closed bolts. From left to right, open, closed, open, closed, open, closed. Coincidence or on purpose?

This shouldn't be a surprise. Annie Oakley, in her later years, was trying to get female riflery teams for, I believe, the Spanish-American War. She strongly advocated for female marksmanship, and rightly so.
