I discovered that my Rossi 92 is drilled and tapped for a scout mount purely by accident when I replaced the rear full buckhorn sight with one with an easier sight picture. Instead of putting the replacement sight on the carbine, I procured a mount and a Bushnell red dot sight. I am blown away at the improvement in shooting the carbine with the red dot. With my headed towards 70 eyes with growing cataracts, the red dot is incredible. Who knew that it would make this much difference in shooting fun!

All kidding aside, if you got a TRS-25, they are pretty awful.

I like the rotary dial as opposed to a digital brightness control. So the trs 25 isn?t great, but it has features I like. Different tools for different folks with different needs.

I have 6 trs-25's and none of them have failed, except one killed the battery after I left the dial on. I put a while line on the dial that is easily seen and check it before I put it away so I don't leave it on. I also have spare batteries in my Range Bag.
I have them mounted on all my Carbines and even run one on my Ruger Scout Rifle occasionally.

They are the best bang for your buck in Red Dot Land! $60-90!

The SIG MSR dot is much brighter, and often on sale in the 90 buck range. I haven't shot one yet, just turned it on and held it next to my TRS-25. The Bushnell is hardly visible outdoors in the desert sun where I live. I haven't looked at the newer Bushnell TRS.

Mine works fine set to 3 out of 11 in bright sun. Even 2 worked for me.

Now that the red dot sights have your attention, get a rail and try a red dot on something like a M1 carbine - mind blowing ...

I have a TRS-25 on a Henry H001. It's an excellent lever gun optic and the combo is very quick and efficient for pest eradication.

I just shot a 3 gun with my SCR Last weekend in 95 degree direct sunlight. I have also taken all of my carbines to Front Sight which as you know was Located in the middle of the Mohave Desert just west of Las Vegas . Never had any problem seeing the dot in the sunlight..

I usually run mine on brightness setting 8 because that setting gives me the brightness I need for shooting in Direct Sunlight.(there is 1-11 settings on these sights.)

I was at the WCGC Range last month and it was Pea Soup Fog with Vis down to 25 yards and no sun anywhere. Brightness setting 6 for that day, and the brightness was fine and the dot size was smaller so I could sight the gun in more accurately with the smaller dot.

Im hanging on to my eyes as long as possible. I do really appreciate the red dot technology, but using irons on most everything else. My ar pistols do wear red dots though.

I will say its a bit tough to see electric stuff on 150 yr old + rifles designs

Putting a red dot on a level rifle is California violation, of some kind. It is illegal to have that much fun again.
