Where would you start? Do you have a favorite?
Look for a factory take off?

ETA: I'd pretty much given up on the Savage stuff since so many say they aren't any good. That's why I was thinking of selling these for Tikka. I'm happy to hear that so many are having a great experience with them.
The guys I used to shoot with used to refer to my rifle as a "Salvage" in place of "Savage"....... they quieted down when I started beating them.

I'm not a mechanic - I just shoot them. So- can't really recommend a barrel, but mine has the factory barrel and seems to shoot straight.

Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

NRA matches are divided into classes based on the chambering.
223 and 308 are "target rifle" cartridges while anything else puts you into "open" class where you will be competing against all those 6mm's.
So there's no disadvantage to shooting a 308 because everyone else in your class will be shooting one too unless they are shooting a 223 instead.

I bought some FGMM a few years ago before things went crazy and I'll likely start with that. I got about 600 155 grain BTHP bullets from an estate and need to figure out which manufacturer they are from and what to load them with. I have been surfing the reloading area and other forums too.
I think I was at 46gr Varget with Sierra 2156's in federal GMM cases and a 210m primer when I still shot a 308 in matches.

Start and finish at Bartlein for a barrel.
The leadtime is long directly from them but there are lots of resellers that have blanks on the shelf for immediate shipment.
Shoulder the barrel directly against the lug like a real gun.
Lug nuts are for holding the wheels on your truck.
