Thanks for all the info Randy. And thanks for indulging me on the whole end-cap rabbit hole.

I'd sort of suspected the bore diameter thing might be because of something like that. In my mind I'd put it as "Maybe it's to reduce friction for something because of the much longer barrel the bullet needs to slide through?" I'd just never read the explanation before.

I'm darned curious about the other makers' .44 cal barrels, Henry, et al. But that's out of scope for this thread. Easy enough to ask the question in a different thread.

Ruger has had many QC issues of late. They redid their signature Red Label shotgun to make it easier/cheaper to manufacture - it was sold for a short time before they decided it was junk and pulled it off the market. The new Ruglin will be completely re engineered to make use of Ruger's ability to cast parts and production line assembly. All the guns will get shipped - ones that don't work Ruger will fix.

Shazaam! Well, lets wait and see what real street pricing will be in a bit.
And that's for a 30-30. Thinking[just me], that the 1894's will be a touch more.
Right now, I'm in nooo hurry.

Hey Tom, I just heard from my FFL. Nothing in stock with their distributor yet. They did tell me that the price would be MSRP.

Sorry Mr. Buchanan, I hope I'm not stepping on your thread.

Not gonna happen, Ran-day. We you.

No small part of the New Marlin's success may be attributed to your efforts.

I'd like to know your source for whoever said that Ruger decided that the new Red Labels were pulled because Ruger thought they were junk? Do you have an actual legitimate source or is that just your opinion, anecdotal?

Mine was the last gen and it has about 7,000 trouble free rounds down the tubes, has never broken, needed adjustment, misfired, etc. It's been a reliable workhorse.

Love the new Ruger Marlins but wasn?t the 336 the working man?s deer rifle at $400-$500? They so cost more than a Winchester or Henry now. Not that it?s a bad thing with the new improvements but affordability was one of the great parts about Marlin.

Yes, they are the working mans deer rifle. I bought my 336C back in the early 80's. Never bagged anything with it though. But still a great solid rifle. Still have it for when the zombie deer start crawling out of the mountains after they mutate from Putins nuke war. B.

Not too many firearms with the fundamental quality of a Marlin 336 selling for $500 these days. Times have changed. The Remington 870 and others of it's ilk seem to be the exception.

Well, maybe that'll happen if Marlins are sold again though Sears, Montgomery Ward, and Big 5.

They say that the end run of the JM builds before the Freedom Group acquisition fell off due to worn out tooling and machinist attrition.

I have a 2005 JM and it had some broach bit tooling marks in the receiver that were so bad that I thought the receiver was cracked.

In contrast, I have a 1970s JM that is a masterpiece.
