To be a true Liberal, you must be 100% pro-Second Amendment. Anything less is inconsistent with liberalism. -
I watched Hickok45 shooting the 24" octagonal barrel 44
And I ordered an older marlin with the cross bolt safety
And added a skinner rear peep sight
It's a blast to shoot.Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)
Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

24” octagon sure adds more weight, but if you don’t mind the heft for the looks then go bonkers. It’s your satisfaction that matters! Your money your happiness.
I’ve never loaded the 44mag for anything longer than 10.5” barrel.
It seems 20” might be optimum barrel length unless you load duplex powder charge. The wise man said just find your place
In the eye of the storm
Seek the roses along the way
Just beware of the thorns... K. MeineComment

I'm in the middle of "modernizing" my old Marlin 336 30-30.
Part of that is chopping the barrel down to 14 1/2" with a pinned and welded brake.
I want a handy, faster pointing rig. This will be an optic only carbine...my eyes don't work with iron sights but if they did, I would go with a 20" barrel.
.Bring hay for my horse....wine for my men....and mud for my turtle!
What do you hear ???...... Nothing but the rain. Well grab your gun and bring in the cat.

Older well used lever action 30-30's make great truck guns once shortened.I'm in the middle of "modernizing" my old Marlin 336 30-30.

I have cut down many such rifles for the task.Randall Rausch
