Oh my...can you even close the bolt?

    I hope nobody was hurt

                It ain't good.
The customer said it popped and fizzed and he said they checked with a rod and the bullet was lodged in the throat. Not so. Not the first time I've been lied to. At least he didn't blame it on his brother in law or uncle.
I'm thinking a lot more than fizzing happened. Rodding the bore showed it was clear back to the case head area. The bolt could not be forced open for love or money. No smoke or brass visible that would be typical of a case failure. Had to unscrew the barrel to get it open. While the bolt appears undamaged, the lug seats show significant setback. The belt expanded almost .040" and the bullet went out the muzzle. Kind of hard to see in the pics, but all nine lug seats are seated and bulged inward. Didn't measure the depth but it's at least .020".

                  Wow-

The bullet had to be pushed back into the case for the bolt to close.

I find it hard to believe a 7mm bullet somehow went through a 6.5 bore though.

                  Crazy.

With enough force the .02 different may not be enough to prevent the bullet from traveling down the barrel.

It could happen to me (not really) I have two Tikka T3s, one in .243 and the other in .223. They look identical. If I take both to the range I check the barrel stamp before selecting the proper box of ammunition.

No it can't because you won't be able to hand push a 243 cartridge into your 223 chamber and get the bolt to close because the 243 cartridge won't fit into your 223's boltface.

Never say never!! All kinds of dumb can happen. When my son was in basic, some guy managed to get an M16 chamber brush halfway down the barrel on an A2 before he thought maybe something wasn't right.
HIGHLY unlikely a guy could cram the bolt home on a 243/223, but you just never know...

                            True.
I have watched (from a safe distance) 50bmg shooters use a hammer to operate their bolt handle.

I just checked the SAAMI drawings for both. Very possible to force the bolt closed 7RM/6.5-300WBY. With almost .300" delta in shoulder lengths most likely the bullet was forced back in the case. Probably took some effort to do it, too. Good thing he didn't have any 300 or 338 rounds lying around.
