Are gunsmiths able to thread the end of the barrel with it on the receiver?

    Thanks

Yeah, I have experience with one, bad experience. I put one on my Mosin and it blew off on first shot. I can't remember which company, but it wasn't either one you listed. The brake flew about 75'. When I emailed the company, which guaranteed the product, they ghosted me.

Most clamp on brakes are crap, just have your barrel threaded.

Why do you care, its a 60 second job to unthread the barrel from a 700. In general, it depends on if the gunsmiths lathe size if they can thread it without removing the action.

If your barrel is tapered. Dont put on a clamp on brake.
If your in the los angeles.area. see.randall.
Depending on barrel length. He can thread the barrel without removing the action.

          Muzzle brake

Silencer Central has barrel threading in shop. They send you a kit for $40 which covers getting it there and back. The threading is about $100 dollars. I've had four done and one more to do. They do Quality work

I have no direct experience with clamp-on brakes other than a dozen or so customers that came to me to have their barrel threaded because the clamp-on brake they tried had come off and launched downrange.

Its the barrels taper that makes the no gunsmith brakes fail.
On a straight barrel you have lots of contact surface and you can even bed the brake with JB Weld to get more.
With a tapered barrel you only get one edge of the brake making contact and its not always enough to hold.

Witt Machine also makes clamp-ons. You give them dimensions of the barrel so they take taper into account. Guntuber West Desert Shooter used one for years on his Tikka.
