I'm thinking of using stripped upper at starting point for bolt action bolt carrier, welding or screwing a few bolt lug guide rods on the inside and cutting a channel for the bolt handle. If its a left handed bolt action that would be acceptable.

Or "The Gun" and DROS part would be an aluminum pipe with threads to mate with barrel extension then a crude DIY-able bolt carrier as described in my other posts.

Yeah, I'm wondering about ALL the legal aspects of this, like those guys that got in trouble for just uploading CAD files for 3-D or something. Thats one reason I haven't even posted sketches. OK, I actually haven't gotten around to it and everything is still very much up in the air.

But you can import something like clamp on sights, gun grips and stocks from anywhere including Red China on Ebay with no issues, correct?

Who knows, maybe the only "factory" thing required that isn't sold at Home Depot will be the die to cut the threads on a piece of 6061 pipe to mate with extension.

You know, without the snide remarks, bickering and insults?

      Understood. And even in light of blatantly false statements, such as this;

And coming from a guy who thinks shortening a shell holder won't change anything.

I can't post a picture of the rifle that I actually own and shoot. I can post most pictures without any issue but this one says upload of file failed every time I try? I have plenty of space left to post but no joy. Any idea?

Try a 3rd party hosting site? Reduce the size/resolution of the photo? Convert image from .oddball to .jpg? Have you tried using a wing nut?

I cropped the picture and will look at a different wingnut today. Do you suggest black oxide stainless or grade?

No, minimum barrel length for a rifle is 16".

Minimum overall length of the firearm is 26".

If you have 14" length of pull you'll probably have an overall length of around 30" when assembled.

The additional mechanism needed to trigger and fire a bullpup configuration would be inefficient because it would add weight for the mechanism and a housing or frame to hold it all together.

An example of a fly weight rifle could be a cricket or AR7 rifle with wire stock but they are 22 lr.

My preference would be 223/5.56 or 357 mag, maybe 9mm.

FIFY, well sorta fixed it. I can't fix the mis-info printed in the description included in link.

                      PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
9mm Glisenti; 80% blue, fair bore, fair stock, 23.5'' barrel, The barrel is part octagon and round. The front sight is a bead. The barrels finish is spotted and has patina overall. The receiver has case color showing, but spotting. The action works and it's a rim fire. The walnut forearm and the wrist are checkered. The wrist having a repair band on it. This shotgun was considered a "poacher gun", s/n 84xx

Euro 9mm shotgun shells were RIMFIRE. Brits called them Rook Guns, and Garden Guns.

                      Caliber:... 9mm Glisenti

                      Action:.... Single shot

                      FirearmType:.... Shotgun
Making the caliber designation bolded above incorrect.

It was made by Glisenti. But it is not chambered in "9mm Glisenti". It is chambered for small rim fire 9mm shot shells.

There is a new company that is making copies of the M6 Scout Rifle in some larger calibers. .357 Magnum. http://tpsarms.com/m6takedownseries.aspx

this is a quick and easy solution to your original idea that already exists. <$600 but a functional gun that you can actually buy and have in CA with no BS.

They have various configurations available and I think they could do a few more if pressed on it. the .357 version as an O/U both .357 barrels might be a good idea. They already do a .410 O/U but .410's operate at much lower pressures than .357's do so it might not be strong enough. .44 Specials might be an option.

My M6 is a Springfield Armory version made by CZ. It is .22LR over .410. I have some Federal .410 slugs that run at 1760 fps which is way up into .357 territory, but accuracy is NOT in the rifled barrel category at all. It is maybe a 30 yard gun.. The gun could be useful in a Survival Situation, but it is way down the list of my idea of such a weapon with a 12 ga shotgun being at the top of the list for a Bug Out Gun. This would be a last ditch sort of weapon something that would be in the Jeep buried under a bunch of recovery gear along with the shovel and tow straps. Kind of a better to have and not need kind of thing. Which is exactly what the gun was originally designed to be in the first place. I doubt any of these guns were ever used in a "Hot" Aircrew Survival Scenario.

Neat set up using existing platform. The 22 Hornet chambering would also allow for a 22 lr cartridge insert too.

I just picked up another handi rifle and am waiting for it to get through DROS; 7.62x39 with the choate survivor stock. I'm hoping to fit a 22 lr barrel to it, and a 20" 20g barrel, have it be something I can take camping and be able to pick up some small game with the potential for larger game at appropriate ranges. Might go with a 30-30 for the centerfire rifle barrel, as the x39s are rare and this one is in beautiful condition.

Not quite as light as the op would want, but I prefer something a little more practical to shoot at the expense of weight.

Here is a photo of my 22 Hornet topper with the two modifications that have some posters very confused.

The hinge pin works exactly Iike a wrist pin does in an engine. Some engines have pressed in pins and some have floating pins. The difference is if your using a fully floating wrist pin you need some kind of retainer to keep the pin from scratching up the cylinder walls. Some very high horsepower engines use an aluminum button while others use spiroloks. On a pressed pin no retainer is used.

On my rifle I removed the hingepin that was an Interference fit and went with a floating bolt and wing nut so no tools would be required out in the field.

Works exactly like a wrist pin swap but it's uglier and the wing nut tends to scratch the receiver.

OP this rifle on a bathroom scale is over 5 pounds. It's ugly but it functions flawlessly and your welcome to shoot it anytime you like.

I wish whoever owns the brand now would bring it back, but can't see that happening for all the reasons listed in this thread. Only problem with the rifle is the desire to own more barrels!
I like them too, have 22 Hornet, 223, & 45/70 that have New England Firearms Co brand and a 243 & 410 that have H&R brand.

If someone were to start making them again, might get a 12 gauge and a 30-30, or 300 Blackout and 357 mag barrels would be cool.
