    Remington 700 Trigger Recall

I recently acquired my late FIL's 700 in .223 and thought I should check to see if it was part of that old recall. According to Remington's site, it is. I filled out the form and promptly received an email confirming they'll ship me the necessary box and label to ship it in for service. That was three weeks ago and I've not received anything further from them.

    I'm wondering:
    • Does California allow one to ship a rifle without going through an FFL?
    • Has anyone successfully had their rifle serviced as part of this recall?
    • Should I even bother, or should I be looking at a better trigger anyway?

I did shoot the rifle for the first time this past weekend and I definitely don't care for the trigger it has. There is virtually no travel at all and it's pretty heavy for my tastes. Pressing it is more about applying more and more pressure until it fires, rather than drawing it smoothly and having it break.

I would just get an aftermarket trigger. If you arent comfortable installing it yourself take it to a gun smith. Not worth the trouble or cost of sending it to Remington if they will even take it at this point.

It seems like it is, as this is the email I received, minus all the personal details it included:

        Confirmation for your recall submission
Remington will send you boxes and written instructions for returning your firearm. Remington will cover all related shipping, inspection, and repair charges to your rifle. Please do not return your rifle to Remington before receiving these materials to expedite delivery of your rifle to the specific Remington facility dedicated to this recall program.

I will likely get a better trigger down the road, but I'm in no real hurry to do so, yet. Maybe I'll ask Santa for one this Christmas.

I assume that was an automated response so it doesn’t really answer if there is anything behind it. It may just be a hosted process that was paid for for “x” years, but the collected data isn’t going to anyone.

            : shrug:

Maybe its time to call the recall phone number?

You might change your mind once you find out how much shipping will cost you.

Good call. I didn't notice the phone number when I looked at the site before, but it's there. I'll give it a call tomorrow.

If there are any charges, though, I'll skip it and go straight for the aftermarket replacement.

Oh sorry didnt realize they cover both ways. If they will replace it, their new factory triggers are pretty decent.

Here is the recall site that the OP probably used.

                      which is the new company.

The company that went bankrupt in September 2020 was: Remington Outdoor Company

A decent trigger (Timney, Jewell, Rifle Basix, or Trigger Tech) will run you around $150ish to about $300.

The swap is pretty simple: Remove action from stock, 2 pins, and a bit of futzing to get the bolt release to work right. Maybe an hour if you're really slow. Only sticky part is getting the release parts back together, but it's not all that tough, and there are online guides if you get stuck.

That's the cost (right now) of a day or two's worth of range ammo. And no shipping/repair/loitering time.

Dont waste your time with that recall.
If they still honor the recall. Send it in. Wait weeks. Finally ships back.
Hope UPS does no lose it.
Trigger will still feel the same.
                            Just buy one of these.

You will end up changing the trigger anyways.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

As others have mentioned, there are some excellent aftermarket triggers for the Remington 700 and the factory trigger is abysmal. Save your self some time and get a TriggerTech or Timney. Both make great triggers and it takes less than 5 minutes to swap out. I have done it at the range before.
