I haven't shot a lever gun in years old winchester 25-35.
That said snap caps are generally thinner and way shorter than real ammunition.
There only purpose is for dry firing and on bolt guns I would imagine similar problems with them not feeding.

I shall, I shall! Now if only I had stocked up on 45-70 ammo and/or components...

I generally make dummy rounds with real bullets and brass, sans primers and powder, for proving my lever guns.
Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

Don't have the .45-70, but my .44 mag lever has to be worked with authority to feed reliably
          War is mostly waiting.

That's a good idea; I have some bullets on order and I have both new and once fired brass... but no primers LOL

I havent noticed that being a/the cause of my malfunction (didn't mess around with the rifle today as I was helping a friend decide on a handgun to buy), but I can definitely tell that putting alittle oomph while working the lever really smooths things out.

I have a couple Browning X-Bolts that will not reliably feed snap caps, from the magazines. Never an issue with live ammo.

Snap caps don’t work. Agree with poster who said go shoot the heck out of it. That being said.....get one of those shooting shoulder pads if you are gonna use “modern” ammo in it and “shoot the heck out of it”. The kick is beastly. Albeit the Henry is a bit heftier and eats the recoil better than some. Otherwise if you are more function checking use cowboy loads. The issue of course being vs hunting ammo much more looping trajectory as they are far less energy at the muzzle and the projectiles are usually heavier.

Interesting idea to make some round sans primer and powder for cycling

I just picked up one of the new side gates and added the rail for a scope and wrapped the lever.

Add rail and scope and wrapped the lever. I also find the ranger point lever screws convenient for cleaning

I don't recall seeing that star shaped lever screw^^^ on a Henry before. Hmm.

Ranger Point Precision. They make them for Henry and Marlin. Makes taking the lever and bolt out for cleaning much easier. A bit pricey for what they are but....I dunno I like them.

I always assumed that the all weather/Black rifles used a plastic stock. That one looks like its wood...
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

That’s on my shortlist to purchase.
I dig it. I assume it’ll be like my Henry X where the lever felt a bit stiff to me until I “broke it in”. So yeah out of the box, the lever feels a bit stiff to me. It’s a bit on the heftier side, but that’s good when you are shooting 45-70. Eats some of the recoil. Especially shooting “modern” loads vs trapdoor/cowboy loads (i wont lie, i roll cowboy loads so I dont have to remember which are which when I shoot my trapdoor).

The only comparison (45-70 lever) i have to offer is the Rossi Rio Grande. The Rossi was smoother (also had trigger work and was well broken in) but was way lighter and the kick was gnarly.
