I can see the white 1" tall X in the center of the 1,000 yard F class target with my Nightforce at 22X.

Well that's nice to know, but there's no way no how I'm spending the two or three grand that it takes to buy a Nightforce. Maybe you missed the discussion above where the scope in the video costs seven HUNDRED bucks and the PST also mentioned goes for about ONE thousand bucks.

I have that scope and it's a 600$ scope not a 1k scope. Have it on my 6.5 grendel AR and soon to have on my 6GT from MPA.

It's badass, but I'm now saving for a razor hd g2. Same turrets, and I love them.

I was watching some youtube videos from "Johnny's Reloading Bench", he compared a Vortex Diamondback, to a Strike Eagle, to a 1st gen PST.

Granted he took some iffy pictures through some sort of cell phone scope mounting gadget but there was little noticeable difference between the Diamondback and the Strike Eagle, but quite the difference with the PST.

That is to say, it seems to me (from watching that one video) that the Diamondback and Strike Eagle likely use the same glass and coating which is inferior to their other more high end scopes. So the extra money paid for a Strike Eagle is in other features than optics.

FWIW the PST Gen1's turret system a big step down from the turrets on the Strike Eagle or PSTII, and the reticle is better in both the PSTII and Strike Eagle. The glass is the big upgrade in the PSTII, and all three can be found in FFP. For a field scope and translating wind to various targets and distances without concentric rings, managing drop, and communication, FFP is highly desirable. Until recently, you could not get a decent FFP anywhere close to these three scopes. You give up a certain; level of QC with these lower-end scopes, but if you're ok maybe having to use Vortex's generous no questions transferable lifetime warranty, they are hard to beat.

If I were in the market for one of these scopes, as someone mentioned, I would look at the used market here and the Hide. THe PSTII line is widely used as a transitional scope or gateway scope into PR, so the supply tends to be robust. As an example, just last month, I sold a PST GenII FFP illuminated scope with Seekins rings ($100), Scope Caps ($40), throw lever ($50) in perfect condition for about $550 with all the above included, plus shipping. Granted, that's probably better than the best price you'll see; you will find value in the used market.

My leupold VX-freedom 3x9 was $150, and its kind of amazing. The glass looks incredible, and the eye relief is long. Its a hunting scope, so you're not dialing in anything besides a good zero, but I can confidently say that its a well made, high quality scope. The 12x is still only $325.

I think you have to decide what you're doing. A vx freedom isnt going to win you any competitions, but if you shoot small steel targets at intermediate ranges, I think its perfect. I think most people lean more towards the casual shooting end, and some of these full feature long range scopes don't provide much benefit if you're ringing steel at 300. My $150 9x is great for that.

You can look up the various Fly Shoots and Egg Shoots to see the equipment lists but if your only going to shoot eggs at 300 yards a fixed 24X or Fixed 36X Weaver at $450 would be the cheapest way to go.
If the gun isn't dedicated to 300 yard eggs the variables will run more but a sightron will fit your needs and budget.

This right here. Know your dope and you can do wonders with a fixed power. Range finders are good and cheap now as well, you don't need to range with your reticle.
