Do you clean your muzzle brake?

On the one hand, the bullet doesn't actually touch it, but on the other hand, it smells like gun powder + OCD?

Spray it with brake cleaner and wipe the residue off.

How could someone be so lazy as not to remove the bolt and tell one of the kids to clean the muzzle break?

Why would you want to get rid of the gunpowder smell? Unless it's to replace it with the Hoppes smell, in which case carry on.

But seriously though, when I'm cleaning the barrel the brake gets cleaned in the process. I don't think it needs any special cleaning beyond that. And I'm certainnly not going to unscrew it to give it a deep cleaning.

i do a light cleaning of the brake every time i clean the barrel, by that i mean i don't unscrew it from the barrel. I moisten all the internal surfaces of the brake with bore cleaner or Kroil using an old bore cleaning mop and i allow the fluid to pool a bit and allow it to work for a good 1/2 hour or so, i'll then take a small toothbrush that i dampen in bore cleaner and mechanically brush out all the nooks and crannies. A very light coating of CLP at the end to prevent rust and perhaps minimize further build up.

if i'm seeing a lot of build up then i will remove it from the barrel and do a more comprehensive cleaning as noted in the article below from accurateshooter.com
Many hunters and precision rifle competitors use muzzle brakes because these ported devices reduce felt recoil significantly. That make s real difference getting back on target for quick follow-up shots.

many of the new muzzle brakes no longer require crush washers so they're pretty easy to screw off, on and align.

Brakes are easy to clean vs ported barrels.......

Give the internal surfaces a good swipe with Kriol before you shoot and the residue will wipe right out.

i have been using hoppe's with a q-tip, which is very laborious. using an aerosol sounds a lot easier.

Clean and wipe off any residue after firing.

I wipe down the external surfaces, I don’t bother with the ports.
