I suggest you NOT chase the threads in that action to clean them up. Call Remington and make them take it back and fix it. The moment you touch it their problem becomes yours.
If the threads aren't holding, it might mean the holes were drilled oversize or the threads weren't cut properly and in that case the action screws will not hold properly even when everything is cleaned up.Comment

Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

Make sure to go to remingtons website and register your gun. Then call them. I just shipped out a gun with a canted site it was easy. They paid for shipping. Only downside is having the gun gone for a period of time. I'm not sure what the time frame is. Mine is tracking to arrive at the factory on the 25th.
I agree with Jack as well. Anything you do will void the warranty.Comment

Not defending Remington because stuff like this should NOT happen but it does. My good friend in Alaska was given a Kimber in .30-06 by his wife that sells for as much as the three most expensive rifles I own. The friend is no slouch when it comes to rifles but nothing he did would get that rifle to shoot decent groups. Kimber finally made it right but not before giving my friend a bunch of grief.Comment

I think the older Kimbers had some issues and some did call it kimber rouletteNot defending Remington because stuff like this should NOT happen but it does. If the screws are the correct length and the action isn't threaded correctly the action would have been loose in the stock wouldn't it?
You mentioned buildup what is that?
And there are only 4 full turns on a Remington 700 front action screw before it makes contact with the bolt. The picture is of 2 brand new 700 actions with a piece of tape on the front screw so I can count the number of turns.Last edited by LynnJr; 01-10-2021, 11:28 AM.Lynn Dragoman, Jr.

The threads on the action are tight (smaller) since it has build up inside. Chasing the threads with a tap should remove that build up and be good as new.I suggest you NOT chase the threads in that action to clean them up.
