Have Gun, Will Travel and the first 12 years of GUNSMOKE are hands down the best television westerns of that period for my tastes.

I never really watched GUNSMOKE as a kid in the 1960s... it was always Bonanza or something. Great show in it's own right. Watched a lot! of The Rifleman.

So I'm catching up on the friendly sarcasm between Matt, Chester, Kitty n Doc now. Then along came that Haggins boy.

Matt Dillon's character was very well-written.

That reminds me of visiting my Grandmother when I was very young. When Gunsmoke was on we would gather around the black and white tv and told to be quiet.
As the show progressed to the climax my Grandmother would start yelling at the tv "look out Matt they're hiding up there behind you". She loved that show and was always rooting for her hero Matt.

I have loved lever guns since I was a kid, first one was a Marlin 336C in 30-30 that my dad bought me for my first deer hunt at the original Reeds store up on the hill.

Picked up 44 mag/357 mag/45-70 versions in both Marlin and Henry.
Always wanted a Winchester 94 in 30-30 , but somehow never picked one up ?

You're missing out big time if you don't have a levergun...

I consider leverguns to be a whole separate "branch" in the collecting / shooting world. I keep it simple by only collecting 4 calibers - .22 rimfire, 38/357mag, 44/44mag, and .45/70. Then, I collect everything from "both ends", to the middle. My Marlin 1895 SBL is a stainless / tactical lever in a modern laminated stock, while my Miroku (Winchester) 1866 take-down is a classic just like the ones that nearly made the buffalo extinct.

This approach allows me to enjoy both the modern features all the way back to early ones (like tangent sights). What I'm saying is that there is a lot of room these days in what's offered being able to satisfy lots of differing tastes in levers.

When pressed for a recommendation, I always suggest the 38/357mag version of a Winchester 1892. The 38 is mellow for plinking while the 357 packs real punch from the extra barrel length. The 1892 action is a favorite as it tends to be one of the smoothest.

I have both. The Marlin is larger, heavier and feels more like a big levergun. The Henry (I have the Ithaca 72 - which was the precursor) is lighter, quicker handling, and a little easier to cycle. The Marlin seems a touch more accurate (but is heavier and has a longer sight radius). Both the Marlin and Henry shoot all lengths of .22 whereas my mdl 72 only shoots .22LR. There may be other differences I'm not aware of.

If I wanted to mount a tangent / express sight for long-range plinking, I'd get the Marlin. If I was snap-shooting jackrabbits out in the field with a mini red dot, I'd get the Henry.

That all said, I like both guns equally and feel that they are so different from each other that I have room for both in my collection. Neither will disappoint.

A new Marlin 22lr lever gun will cost thousands $$$. You might find a used 39 on GB for less than 1k.
I don't own a 39 but I do own a Henry H001. It's probably the most accurate 22lr that I have. You should be able to get one for around $300,00
